The percussive impact that has damaged the screen may have caused other internal damage to the camera. It may need repairs

you must use the common sense in order to take out the screw with the appropiates tool such small screwdriver. and marking any parts that you are taking out., and proceeding in contrary sense.
or you must go to the repair shop, if you do not have the skill.

If not, you have a damaged (screen) but workable camera. I also believe with that camera you've a standard optical view finder. A damaged screen shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I would have thought that, given the age and model number, it would be economically wiser to replace the camera rather than get it repaired.

LCD screen will be replaced to fix the camera. Novice should not attempt to take apart camera to avoid further damage.
Let me know if you need part number of required lcd screen or take camera in local camera repair shop for fix.

Best way is to go to a photo store and purchase lcd screen protector film or heavy duty transparent repair tape[camping store]

Taking a camera apart is no easy task unless your are used to fine instruments and reassembling them ditto
Buying spares new is a nono usually .Secondhand -well its a gamble isn't it?

Dismantling the camera to replace the screen is not a recommended task for the feint hearted - many small parts thus if damaged are irreplaceable. Jessops or you local photo store sell screen protecting tape- its like extra heavy and wide sellotape.. This will serve as a temp repair.
