Penguin a/c The original Penguin A/C on my 1999 Airstream failed in August 2006, and the roof portion was replaced by an Airstream dealer. The replacement would not work with the existing thermostat, which was replaced by a thermostat designed to handle multiple zones, although I have only one zone. The combination operated irratically; it was often necessary to set the demand to 50 degrees to get the unit to start on a hot day. Once the unit was cool, any adjustment to a moderate temperature (e.g. 75 deg) would result in the unit shutting down and not restarting as the temperature soared to 85+ degrees. Manipulation of the thermostat would not induce the cussed thing to resume cooling. The thermostat was replaced at the WBCCI International Rally in June 2007, but operation has not improved. We are currently traveling through hot country on our way to the 2008 rally. Each evening once to unit has cooled below our comfort zone we are afraid to raise the temperature set point because any increase results in an irreversible shutdown.
