BoostSpeed defragment has caused a major slowdown. My computer barely moves and suddenly takes a few MINUTES rather than seconds to open a file, folder or app. Trying to open another folder while it's still working on the first causes a complete freeze.

I would suggest that you run a scan on your HD using Windows' builtin chkdsk utility.

Start a DOS command prompt (depending on your OS version you may need to run it as administrator)

Type in chkdsk /F /R

More than likely your HD is having some bad sectors which will cause a delay in the read and seek time. I would suggest backing up your data in case this drive should fail completely which it will should any bad sectors are found by chkdsk.

How do you clean a laptop ram?

Hi there loverboyjero! :) here are the steps on how to clean a laptop ram :)
1.Log onto your laptop and click "Start." Go to the "Control Panel." Choose "Performance Information and Tools." The window lists data information such as calculations per second and memory operations per second. On the left is a list of tools for disk cleanup. The tools in this window can also be accessed in the "System Tools" folder inside "Accessories," which is also located at the "Start" menu.
2.Click on "Advanced tools." Choose "Open Disk Defragmenter." The window will list the last time the laptop was defragmented. If the "Last run" was over a month ago, click "Defragment now." Defragmenting your hard drive will rearrange files so that the laptop can better access them. Defragmenting may take an hour or longer, depending on the last time it was done.
3.Click back to return to "Performance Information and Tools." Click "Open Disk Cleanup." The window will prompt you to select a drive to cleanup. Select "C:" and if you have more than one hard drive, an external or a partitioned hard drive, do a disk cleanup of these drives as well. Wait for Disk Cleanup to calculate how much space you will be able to free up. This may take a few minutes to complete.
4.Select the items that you want to delete. These files will be permanently deleted. Delete "Temporary Internet Files," "Downloaded Program Files," and the "Recycle Bin." You may have an option that says "Hibernation File Cleaner." Removing this file will disable hibernation on your laptop. Do not remove this file if you use hibernation. Click "OK," then "Delete Files.

Just seems to take forever to get it to move

A couple of suggestions: First, defragment your hard disk. In Windows XP, open the start menu, open Accessories and find the Disk Defragmenter. Under Vista and 7, just use the search tool. Run a defragment. This will make it easier for the computer to load files by putting them closer together.
Also, try removing any program you don't use anymore from your computer and close applications when you're not using them.
One last thing: if your computer is older than a few years, it may just be time to upgrade it. Consider upgrading your RAM, Processor, or simply buying a new computer if the defragmentation, cleanup, and closing has no impact.

Why Disk Fragments a problem?

Any storage action on the magnetic disk like creating, deleting, moving, updating and copying files will lead to fragmentation and consequent performance loss. As time goes by, this accumulation of fragments on your hard disk becomes bigger and bigger. As the hard disk reads and merges these separate fragments every time you open a file, they will eventually cause problems such as system slowdowns, PC crashes, slow startup and shutdown, and will even shorten the life span of your hard drive. That is why defragmentation is so important for your entire computer system.

Advanced Defrag – The better and easier defrag solution!

You may find various defrag programs in the market, they may look the same, but many of them lack of ability to
effectively defrag all the MFT (Master File Table), they will automatically skip certain system files with extensions
such as DLL, INI, COM etc during the defragment thus left remnant fragments after each defragment action, it can
also easily get halted while defragging which is very user-unfriendly.

Advanced Defrag rectified all the cons above from these defragmenters, and the efficiency is even better. Its advanced
defragment arithmetic not only enables you to fast defrag, but also defrag completely and thoroughly. If you would
like to give your PC hard disk a completely care and experience the most efficient defrag technology, Advanced
Defrag is the perfect choice for you.

How it works?

Your hard disk controls a magnetic head which searches the areas where the parts of the required file are located,
reads the data and transfers these fragments to the disk cache or EMS memory. The time this takes is called the
average seek time. The average seek time of most hard drives is less than 9.5 millisecond. The Advanced Defrag
program is able to collect the various fragments of each file and store them very quickly into contiguous space on
the hard disk which greatly reduces the seek time of the magnetic head. Better file reading and writing speed is
provided as a result. It does make a difference if you have got used to work and play with a fast and smooth system.
It also helps to prevent premature hard drive problems and retrieve the data in the event of a drive crash.

Well The reason that it is taking so long to load Windows is its in bad need of cleaning . Also there are too many things starting up with windows. Every program you download will want to start when Windows star up unless you change that.
Now the reason that is not Keeping the date and time is because the DDO battery for the bios is going back. I can Walk you thru the Disk Clean up and Disk defrag . But I would not advise you to open up your laptop and try changing the DDO battery.
To do a Disk Clean up .
  1. Click Start.
  2. Click All Programs.
  3. Click Accessories.
  4. Click System Tools .
  5. Click Disk Clean up.
It will scan your files then a box will pop up.
check all the boxes and click next.
This will clean up your computer and help it to move faster. Now you follow the same instructions but this time you click on Disk defrag.
Click on Defrag to start the Defragging .
Do this as soon as you get the computer on desk top.

My computer is running way to slow and the sounds from the speakers don't work checked computer says okay

Try these steps one by one:

1. Disable or uninstall startup programs.
2. Uninstall unused programs.
3. Defragment the hard disk. This is usually the culprit.
4. Free up disk space. This is another usual suspect.
5. Check the RAM contacts. Try removing and reinstalling the memory sticks.

Sometimes, the sound won't come up if your computer is having major slowdown. You can also try removing/disabling the sound card to see if that's the one causing the slowdown (faulty cards causes Window to keep trying).

To slow

Computer slowdowns have several factors.

How much memory do you have?

If its 256 or below, try adding or upgrading it to 512 mb or more. Having insufficient memory causes your computer to take some space of your hard disk as a substitute, which is a lot slower than the memory ram.

Also check how much space is available on your hard disk. About 15% of the hard disk space must be freed to prevent slowdown.

Use the Disk Cleanup tool to clean some unneeded files. Go to My Computer, then right-click the drive you want to clean up, then click Properties, and click Disk Cleanup.

Try also to defrag your files to lessen the time for the access arm of your hard disk to search/read a file. To defrag your hard disk (or other storage device), go to My Computer, then right-click the drive you want to defrag, click on Properties, then tools, and click Deframent now. Analyze first so you will know if you should defrag the volume, then defrag if necessary. Do this every month to prevent too much fragmentation of files.

Scan for virus and spyware, becuase most of them take hard disk space, memory and have high CPU usage, thus making your system slow even there is no program running. For free anti virus, try AVG. For anti-spyware, try SpyBot S&D.

Also make sure that your computer is properly ventilated. Heat could also limit the performance of your computer.
