Welcome.

First of all, check the flash drive if it has a slider somewhere. Some flash drive has this slider as a write protect switch. If it has none, this is a problem with XP, do the following:

1. Run an anti virus/spyware program while the USB flash drive is inserted.
2. If the above does not work, try this:

Run > type regedit > Enter - Single-click on 'My Computer' > File > Export > save it to the Desktop (Always best to have a backup!!)
- Go to the following

My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies

*There seems to be some spaces here in 'StorageDevicePolicies' in the text above, there shouldn't be, OK*

Double click on the string 'WriteProtect' and change the 'Value Data' box to '0'
- Then: File > Export > save somewhere useful as something like 'StorageDevicePolicies001.reg

- You also need to do this for the strings in any folders called 'ControlSet***' (* = any Digit, i.e. 001, 002) - for example: Everything is the same, just change 'CurrentControlSet' to 'ControlSet***

My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
*There seems to be some spaces here in 'StorageDevicePolicies' in the text above, there shouldn't be, OK*
Save these to the same place as before as 'StorageDevicePolicies00*'

The saves are in case it reverts at a later date, just double click (saying 'yes' to importing these to the registry) on all of the files and it will all work again.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need further assistance.

How do i format the kingston datatraveler 310 256 gb to ntfs file system

Hello insert the drive in the usb port.

When you see the drive in the control panel, right click on it and choose format.

Select NTFS in the selection box, and mark quick format and click start.

This could take a while.

You just have to save ALL the previous saved files, before you format, because the files will be lost, when the the drive is formatet.

Good luck

Hi can u tell me how to unwrite protect a kingston 4gb usb Pease....

Some USB flash drives have a switch or button on them to enable/disable the write protection. If it does not have a switch then it was either done with software and you will need said software to switch it, or the drive is corrupt and no longer usable.

Hello Gwolk,

The Kingston 4GB DataTraveler Generation 3 (G3) USB 2.0 is a durable 4GB flash memory drive for use with both Macintosh and PC computers. It may be used to transfer files from one platform to another, or to carry files and small applications on a continuing basis. Having no moving parts, flash drives are exceptionally durable and reliable for years of use.Simple - just plug into any USB port

Files in my kingston pendrive does not open up

Hi manoj_clc,

The "other PC" needs to have the same application installed that created the files. It sounds likely that is the problem for the other PC. If the files are failing to open using the PC that originally copied the files, then try formatting the USB drive (formatting deletes all data). Before you copy the file again, make sure the same file opens from your computer prior to copying it. Now copy the file to it the USB drive again.

Once transferred the data to the USB, it shows its correpted.

I recommend that you re-format the drive/device in the system you intend to use it in most.

If you format in the NT mode then your Windows 98 etc will not be able to read the data... this MAY be your problem?

If you are using NT see if it gives you the option to format in 32 bit mode? You MAY be able to use it with both operating systems then.

Hope this helps!
