P. 140 of the users manual listed the protected card problem. Solution is to switch your SD card from lock position to unlocked. That solved the problem for me.
If it's an SD card, there is a little tab on the left side. Pushed down
it puts the card in "write protect" mode that prevents the camera (or
the computer) from writing to the card and/or erasing files that are
already on it. Make sure the tab is pushed up and the camera should be
able to write to the card.

Guys - this is for all those who have been suffering from protected card problem and tired of being advised by so called experts on this site to toggle the swtich to unlock position.
This is what i did to solve my problem that i faced for the first time yesterday which infact prompted me to become a member of FIXYA to find the solution. i am not an expert nor do i know much about photography or cameras so suite yourself and follow my advise at your own risk ( relax its easy ) .
I put a very little super glu ( any quick fix glu from small tube) to keep the lever of the SD card to the unlocked position. MY CAMERA IS BACK TO NORMAL AND I CAN NOW TAKE PICTURES.
Warning -
1. Dry completely before inserting ( takes 1 minutes )
2. Be prepared mentally never to take the card out to insert in laptop. use the cable instead.
3. decide never to use the locked position. always save in Hard disk of laptop instead of saving in the SD card. This way you dont need the locked position.....ever.
Let me know if this works. i have a fFjifilm finepix 1000 d and i was in no mood to replace this super cool DSLR camera.
Check the card. There is a little button on the side...unlock it...put it back in the camera...turn the camera on. It should work!

me too have the same problems do u guyz knows how to?????
I KNOW THAT UNLOCKING THE CARD DOES THE TRICK, BUT 90% OF THE TIME, THE CARD LOCK SWITCH RETURNS TO THE LOCK POSITION WHEN I INSTALL THE CARD INTO THE CAMERA; NO MATTER HOW CAREFUL I AM IN TRYING TO PLACE IT IN THE SLOT. IS THERE A SIMPLE WAY OF KEEPING THE CARD IN THE "UNLOCKED" POSITION?????
