Amana Dryer LGA30AW / PLGA30AW: Dryer was hard to start (had to hold down timer knob longer than usual and sort of grinding sound on starting and kinda noisy when running. Replaced belt (worn and starting to get cracks but not broken) and idler pulley wheel (old one seemed OK). Back rollers seemed good (replaced a few years ago). Reassembled and seemed to be running good and very quiet now but still maybe a slight bit of grinding sound on first start. Advancing timer manually thru cycles (dryer empty) seemed to work: rotated quietly, heated up, cooled down; however, when actually drying clothes, timer/cycle would not auto-advance past start of cool down cycle and kept heating, also became noisy again. After shutting off, it wouldn't start but had grinding sound like trying to start; held start (timer) knob down too long and grinding sound stopped (like maybe something overheated or blew fuse) and now won't even try to start - still hear faint clicking of timer when pushing in and trying to start but no other sound (drum still turns OK by hand). waited about 15 mins for cool down but still no indication of starting (faint timer clicking still heard when trying). I let sit/cool overnight and will try again later. What do you think? Timer? Motor? Maybe also blown fuse now? I'm also looking for a repair manual for this model, which brought me to your site, but I don't see any manuals listed.

Definitely the motor, if your pushing the knob in for the "on" position, you will hear an unusual noise almost like grinding. AND guess what, it was grinding, if if you look right under the bearing in the front of motor where the pulley is, you will notice there is oil, the means bearing seal is busted (most common problem with motors) looks like its difficult to pull but its not the hard, take out the drum and front panel first, vacuum everything inside and change the belt as well since your in that deep. Motor is 140 with tax, new motor is a better idea, belt is $30. so for under $200, you get pretty much a new dryer. this model is made to last. good luck, (and its not the timer, i have an extra one if anyone needs one) thanks, [email protected]

Hello, I have Amana LG4309W heavy duty gas dryer.

sounds like one of the supply fuses at the house panel, these 240 volt dryers are wired so the timer is on one phase(120)volt and the motor is on the opposite phase(120)volt and the heating element is on both phases for a combined 240 volts,if you lose one phase you either wont get motor operation or timer operation, and for sure no heat and you have the timer so you have 120volts

Amana lga30aw. dryer starts in auto mode, pilot on, gas on, goes off after awhile and never comes back on. timer does not move in auto but does move on the timed mode (still does not dry in the timed...

You may need to replace the timer, but watch the video below and it will walk you thru the troubleshooting process. The timer not moving in the "auto sense" mode maybe due to a bad thermostat. Here is a link to the timer in case you need it.

Dryer won't run. Stops after 30secs

Sounds like the timer is going bad and it needs to be replaced. The time is located behind the knobs.
