Electrolux Epic 6500SR Full Bag sensor working, Does not Reset properly

I have an Electrolux Epic 6500 SR (predecessor of Lux 7000).

The full bag system works properly--it shuts down the vacuum when the bag is full and illuminates the full bag light.

However, when I try to start the vacuum again with a new bag, the full bag light stays on and the vacuum doesn't reset right away.

If I put a new bag into the machine and press the on/off switch 5 + times, the full bag light goes out and the vacuum starts running again. I have had several of these vacuums with the full bag sensors and I have never run into a problem with the system on any of them before.

Here's the scenario:

1. Vacuuming until the bag is full and the sensor switches off the machine and the full bag light illuminates.

2. Press on/off switch to turn "off" vacuum--Full bag light stays illuminated.

3. Insert new and empty bag.

4. Press on/off switch to turn on vacuum (full bag light is still illuminated).

5. Vacuum does not turn on (full bag light is still illuminated).

6. Press on/off switch 5+ times and the full bag light turns off.

7. Press on/off switch and vacuum turns on.

Anyone have an idea? The Aerus/Electrolux service agent near me simply tells me that I should invest in a new vacuum cleaner. I know that there is an alternative solution here.

bag light stays on is there a reset button for this vacuum

  • Anonymous Mar 17, 2014

The unit will not turn on. At first, flipping the breaker switch worked. Next time, the reset button worked. Now, nothing I do turns it on.

Could the problem be a control value in the front of the vacuum.

The problem was a sticking switch that was not being reset. The vacuum on/off switch mechanism is comprised of two switches. One is the main switch that turns the vacuum on and off. The second is a shut off switch that gets tripped when the full bag sensor is engaged. This second switch is supposed to get reset when you push the on/off switch on the outside of the machine. The full bag shutoff switch was stiff and it, therefore, was taking a couple of presses of the on/off switch to move the shutoff switch back into the running position.

My epic 6500SR is not working. The power comes on

This is usually caused by your full bag indicator shutoff switch.
The control valve has gone bad. This is the dial on the top of the vacuum that has numbers on it.
You cannot bypass this problem from outside the machine.
The part can be bought at the local outlet. Go to www.aerusonline.com and find A local dealer. It is not too expensive to fix, and is a common problem on later model electroux vacuums.

What does the warning light with question mark mean on the Electrolux Epic 6500 SR canister?

It means to check the bag. Your bag is either missing or misaligned and has slipped past the little clear sensor or bag lockout plunger in the corner of the bag chamber at the door.
Remove the bag turn on the vac and push this switch, the vac should start when the switch is depressed. If not the internal switch inside the vac is misaligned or damaged. Please post back to confirm how you make out

What size/model bags do I need for my Electrolux Epic 6500 SR vacuum?

You need an Electrolux Cannister bag to fit pre 2001 Series cannisters. You can fin them at a VAC Service center or thru AERUS Electrolux. Buy only a 4 ply bag, nothing thinner.

What is the symbol above the "change bag" symbol?

When the bag is full, the "full bag" light will come on and will turn itself off. Replace bag (make sure there is no clog) and try again.
Hope this helps.

Bag Full Sensor

Opening The Unit:
Remove the hose, open the door, and remove the bag. Making sure that the door is open wide enough, pull the rubber strip on each side of the canister toward the opening until they are completely removed. With a little shifting, you will now be able to pry open the top cover from the bottom. Remove the obstruction sensor hose so that you can completely separate the halves.
Note: If the strips will not move toward the front, the you will have to slide them off to the rear. You will need two screwdrivers to pry open the top rear of the unit far enough to release the back cover.

Locating The Switch:
The "trip" switch is located on the inside top cover under the power button. The trip switch is activated by the sensor valve next to it.

My Electrolux upright worked fine

Are you using the proper bag? There's a kill/reset switch that needs to be pushed down by the rim of the bag before the unit will run.

Full bag system works properly, but doesn't reset easily

Either there is something wrong with your switch. Which it doesnt sound like it. Take it to your dealer or call another one it sounds like the control valve needs to be replaced. I am a dealer 1-866-966-9350.
