I just received this error message on my Miele WPS 4146 (Waterproof Fault) Prior to this I had an error message regarding the Drain outlet, so I opened the drain outlet and cleaned it. I think I might have opened it too quickly and therefore creating the (Waterproof Fault). The problem is that when you open the drain outlet too quickly the water runs into the bottom of the washing machine where some sensor lies and you get the (Waterproof Fault) error message on the display and not even turning off the machine will do anything to get rid of this annoying message.
So here is the fix that worked for me.
1. Turn off the machine
2. Unplug it
3. Open the drain outlet and take out the plug.
4. Dry all the visible water with a cotton cloth.
5. Tilt the machine FORWARD and hold it until you see water gushing from underneath the machine.
6. Repeat this until you see no more water.
7. Plug the machine back inn.
8 VOILA no error message! I hope in your case :)
Brilliant! This worked after a burst pipe had created this fault message. Saved Lots of time, worry and money. Thank you!
FAB! My error message came up on xmas eve after a frozen drain pipe problem, I sorted that out and was going to call Miele on Tuesday - Great solution and the washing is on. Thanks very much, saved me a bomb
catherine My message came up on 30 Dec - great, very convenient!! Miele costs a
fortune and take their time coming. Followed your instructions and it
worked. Thank you so much - saved me £95 call-out charge what
ever else they would have charged for pulling the machine out and just
tipping it forward. Brilliant.. Most of Miele's silly 'send for the engineer'
messages go just by turning the machine off and on again.... but not this
one.
Superb, after being told by Miele that there was a 8 day wait for the engineer, this worked perfectly. Yeah, clean undies are already on the way.
Thanks.
THANKYOU SO MUCH!!! I bought this machine because of their great reputation and is cost nearly 900euro. Just after my 2 month guarantee was up, this fault showed. Your instructions worked perfectly. Miele were going to charge me nearly 500 euro to have it fixed, which is shocking. If you have had any problems with thier tumble dryer let me know because mine broke down at the same time. Thanks so much again, Sarah
Thank you!! Just solved my problem too. Washing back on, fingers crossed it is the end of my problem.
Thank you so much. After opeing the drain filter lid to find a button, I didn't close it properly so I had the waterproof fault message. I knew it wasn't an electrical fault, just my stupidity, and your method worked perfectly. It saved me waiting for a technician and the cost of their service fee for something that ened up being relatively easy to fix. Again, thank you!
I have a miele Novotronic w1614 and I have the same fault but can't open the drain cover - can anyone give me any clue?
I have a Miele novotronic w1614 with the same error but I can't open the drain cover - anybody know how?!
Worked great! Thank you!
Thanks for your tip. Also worked for me as a temporary fix to get the machine going again but you'll also need to get the leak fixed. I tok the top lid off to start and there was a stain coming from the water inlet hose where it joins the drum. Sealed and sorted!

Thank you for this solution, donno how i didnt think about it myself, got the same problem on M4144, opened the valve, emptied the water and it works again.
Thankyou Halldor. You have saved the day...... Husband was on the verge of taking the whole machine apart until I read your solution
Yes, but the problem repeats after few times that I use it! it doesn't make sense that I have to do it every time. any other solutions?
Worked for me too :-)
Perhaps the machine is not level -> water stays
Hi.

My liele washing machine is showing up waterproof fault and I can't get rid of it.
Same error on mine along with beeping. I turned it off and opened the flap on the front to expose the screw plug drain. With my wet vac ready, I unscrewed it and sucked up about a liter or so of drain water. There was a blockage that came out. Turned machine on and same error and beep. Tilted machine forward, released more water and then tried it again and the error is gone.
Well, it did it again. This time I had to open the top, then the front panel, then the sides to reveal the base pan where that 2nd bit of water seemed to be coming from when I tilted the machine. It was still a bit wet around what looked like the sensor. I couldn't see any problems, so I ran the machine to see if I could see where the leak was. There was a tiny leak in the soft black hose under the drum. Inside I could feel lots of objects so I opened it and out came all sorts of things including a screw which must have made the hole. have ordered a new Miele Drum To Pump Sump Hose for £50. Ouch, but at least it'll work again. Lets hope.
