Sounds like HDD dead.
test the hard disk
ask how.
we run free linux boot disk (or thumbdrive) and run "disk test"

forgot to say, some new BIOS have crude
    HDD test there.
what I run first is the S.M.A.R.T test.
1 step and let the drive tell you if its ok or not. if drive acts dead it is.
if the smart shows out of spare clusters its dead duck,

You most likely have a bad hard drive you need to get a new hard drive and then manually reinstall windows of your choice if you do not know how go to a shop because this job is not simple

SOURCE: HP PAVILION a305w

try getting into the bios and setting it to boot normally, turn off fast booting if its an option thats on, also, set your CD drive as the first boot devioce, then hard drive. Save and reboot, have CD in drive and just start hitting the F10 key as soon as it starts up, usually you hear a Beep when it detects that you are hitting the key for the boot options. HP pavilions where made to start and skip through the Post Process quickly to limit waitnig time, of course this sux when you want to boot from a cd.

You could try remove ing the BIOS Battery off the board and unplugging the system, wait a minute for it to discharge and put it back in, power it up and see if it lets you boot from CD.

Your bassically resetting the BIOS to factory defaults.

Also, i dont recomend buying HP Pavilions. i wokred on three seperate ones that a customer thought was a New machine ( this was back in 2001 ) but all the parts where 1995 parts, which means wghen they tried to upgrade to windows XP, XP doesnt have any generic drivers for hardware that old so nothing worked and yuo cant find any driver online that are that old.

Good luck anyway.

No power on will shutdown

Hello

First of all press ALT+CTRL+DEL and start Task Manager, there is probably some application (or other process) that is not reponding. You can kill them to let the shutdown continue, and know what is causing the problem and maybe find an update for it.

Also this means that your computer has not been rebooted properly since the installation of important system updates. If you have "Automatic Updates" scheduled on your machine, these updates could have downloaded and installed without your knowledge. To fix this issue, let the updates finish installing, reboot and then shut down your computer as normal.

Click "Start."

Click "Windows Update." Click "Install Updates" to begin the installation of any updates that have been downloaded to your Compaq Presario. When the "Restart Now" button becomes available, click it once. Your Compaq Presario will shut down Windows, finish installing the updates and then reboot your computer.

Click "Shut Down." Because the updates have finished installing and have been installed properly, your Compaq Presario will now shut down normally and will not immediately boot back up.

there may be a backed up folder on another partition of your hardrive with the restore files, but you should have an anti virus programme installed, if not download this free AVG 8 and then restart your pc in safe mode (press F8 while booting and select safe mode).

click on the administrator account and find the AVG8 download, install it, the go to my computer, right click, properties, system restore tab and untick 'turn on system restore'.

run the AVG 8 programme and scan your system.

Once virusus are found, reboot system and then run as normal and then turn back on system restore
