HI, You should remove it. Here is how Normal 0 UNPLUG the dryer! Remove the two screws under the lint screen and pop the top up by inserting a flat blade screw driver in the gap between the front panel and the top. Remove the rear panel of the dryer and locate the four 5/16" screws that hold the lint screen housing to the bulk head. Pull the lint screen housing away from the bulkhead and reach in to remove the item that fell.

I have to say if you don't understand 120v and 240v it might be best to let someone more knowledgable help in person.
120v is 1 leg
240v is produced from 2 legs opposite phase.
do you have "A" and "B" phase and if so do you know how to tell?
Do you have electric heat with breakers?
If so i'll try to talk you through it

Sounds to me like either the seals on the front and back of the drum are worn or the glides for the drum are worn and is causing the clothes to get caught between the drum and the usually the
front edge of the dryer. The worn glides will cause the gap that you mention.
