SOURCE: Hotpoint sxs compressor stays running.

Fasnipe, it sounds like you are starting to lose the gas in the unit. Fairly soon, you'll see that the unit will fail to keep things cold. If it is less than 5 years old, you may have a warranty. If more, I suggest you get in a technician when the problem begins to impact the ability to keep food. You cannot fix this yourself.

SOURCE: NOT COOLING SUB Z 550

you have either a bad compressor relay or a bad compressor. disconect the power and pull the cap off the problem compressor and there will be 2 components that wires are hooked to. leave the wires on them but pull them off. the one with the most wires is the one that you wanna check. shake it in your hand and if it rattles like it has gravel in it then replace it with a new one. that part is your compressor relay. If it doesn't rattle then you have a bad compressor. The other one with one wire is the overload. It is probably white depending on how old it is. Let me know your modle # and I can get you a part #.

At night its shuts down when the therm is satisfied, but trys to restart right away and when it does start it shuts down right away and just keeps doing this

The thermostat has a differential built into the temperature sensing operation. The differential is normally a degree or more. If the stat shuts down at 72 degrees it should not start the unit again until the temperature in the room reaches 73. If the AC runs and cools properly until it shuts down, I would check the thermostat. The AC can not restart immediately after it shuts off because the pressures in the system are too high at the compressor. It takes a few minutes for the pressures equalize allowing the compressor to start. If the stat tells the unit to start under high pressure, the compressor will shut down on overload. It will start and run after the pressure falls enough for the compressor motor to run.

Have temp gage almost to 9 (per instructions to make warmer ) but still at 33 degrees F. need to make warmer

the freezer cools the fridge side so if you open the air flow up going in to the fridge it will only get colder. so cut the air flow down low and it should warm up. this causes the freezer to get cold quicker too because there is more cold air available in the freezer so it cuts off the compressor sooner.

think about how it works. if you doing everything right then you need to listen to be sure the stat is cycling the compressor or does it never get cut off by the stat.

The compressor works for a few seconds but then stops. The freezer is over temperature.

Check the condenser fan motor (next to compressor) make sure it is running. Next change relay (inside black box) on compressor.

Motor trys to start

Sounds like the compressor has locked up. You can try to replace the start relay which plugs onto the compressor terminals.

Most factory built refrigerators and freezers have 5 year refrigeration system warranties. You will pay for labor and other consumables.

Freezer is not running even the power receptacle is working

there are no fuses on a domestic freezer that i have ever seen. there are no fans and there are no traditional freezer coils. so you have only a few things that could be going on. if the temp is way up the thermostat should sense hot and close and send power to the compressor and it should run. you can do one of two things . find the thermostat inside the freezer usually . gently remove cover and check incoming terminal and outgoing terminal. if you show 120 volts its open and the stats bad. if you don't show 120 volts between terminal connections then its closed and the compressor is failing to start. if power is coming into the stat when checked to ground then go to compressor and see if there are starting components . they are a start capacitor and a START RELAY AND PERHAPS A OVER LOAD . SEE IF POWER IS ARRIVING AT THE COMPRESSOR. IF SO CHECK THE MICROFARED OUTPUT OF THEcapacitor . you need within 10 percent of the rated value. also you can gently remove the overload , a little plastic disc and look on the bottom side and see if its cracked or burned looking. an amp probe on the compressor will tell you what amps it pulls if it trys to fire up . 6 to 10 is good 30 to 50 is mechanically locked up and then the overload trips. if compressor is ice cold to touch then your not getting power to the compressor and its not trying to run. if its hot to the touch thens its trying but start caps weak , or its locked up. most domestic freezers are not worth the cost of a new compresssor anymore. good luck

Kenmore Upright Freezer Works Sometime

try a new start relay and overload kit specifically for the make and model freezer you are working on. if compressor can be seen ,the numbers on it can be used to get correct oem start cap, relay ,and overload. if your unit is having starting problems that will usually fix it. if however, the stat is failing to bring it on a new stat is called for. but it sounds like it is having starting problems since you said it was off a long while then still struggled on the overload to start then finally did. if the new start components don't work then new freezer time. compressor replacement is to expensive anymore. good luck

Pop full of ice

Sandy, this sounds like a bad thermostat. First: does the unit seem to run continuously? Try this: turn the stat to a position near 'off'. Does the compressor turn off? If not: change the stat. Before you do: check the position of the thermostat bulb. On some units, you can see a thick silvery 'wire' coming out of the thermostat housing. It should be fairly straight and generally located near an air duct inside the unit. If it has become dislodged, put it back. If it is broken or kinked, it needs to be changed. Be sure to unplug your fridge before working on this!

Other possible problems: You may have either low gas or a bad defrost timer. Low gas generally will show up as frost on one side of your freezer compartment and airflow will be fairly low when the fan is running. The defrost timer, used to schedule a defrost cycle is generally not a big problem on GE/Hotpoints, though.

Refrigerator stopped after only having 18 months

"part that starts the compressor" could be the thermostat or the compressor relay. most probably the thermostat. the 'stat is indeed nothing to do with the compressor and is only the switch that makes the compressor start. the part is reasonably cheap and easily replaced. hotpoint refrigeration is as good as any and i don't have a vested interest

FFA60 Hotpoint fridge/freezer Red warning light

if i read the english right, the compressor runs but the freezer fan only runs for a short time. no fan then no cooling. there is a fan stat so that the fan only runs when the evap is down to temp. this may be faulty. also on some hotpoint, the fan switches off when door opened. check door switch operating ok. this may also explain problem with fridge lamp
