How-To Unlock The Controls For A Whirlpool Duet washer

I have unplugged the machine and plugged it back in and restarted, just like when a computer needs to be reset/cold boot.

FRIDGIDAIRE FRONT LOAD WASHER DOOR LOCK

THIS FRONT LOAD WASHER HAS AN ELECTRONIC SWITCH THAT SNAPS INTO THE LOCK MECHANISM. MINE POPPED OUT OF THE 2 CLIPS THAT HELD IT IN PLACE, SO WHEN I CLOSED THE DOOR, THE LOCK LIGHT DID NOT LIGHT AND THE DOOR DID NOT LOCK. HAD ALL KINDS OF ADVICE THAT DIDN'T WORK. UNPLUG THE WASHER, REMOVE O RING AROUND RUBBER BOOT. REMOVE THE FRONT PART OF THE BOOT. THEN YOU JUST REMOVE THE LOCK MECHANISMS, 2 SCREWS IN THE FRONT. PULL THE LOCK MECHANISM HOUSING TO THE SIDE, BE CAREFUL OF THE CONNECTED WIRES, THEN LOOK WITH A FLASHLIGHT. IF THE SMALL SWITCH BOX IS OUT OF PLACE, THEN POP IT BACK IN. THIS PROBLEM STARTED WHEN I WAS CLOSING THE DOOR TOO HARD AND QUICKLY. SO BE GENTLE WHEN CLOSING YOUR DOOR. THE ARM THAT LIFTS TO HIT THE SWITCH THAT TURNS THE DOOR LOCK LIGHT ON AND LOCKS THE DOOR, IS PLASTIC.

Closed door selected the cycle pulled knob out light for door lock came on but didn't start tried to open the door with the door lock light on and it opened. unplugged machine and the plugged it back

change door lock unit.. it sounds it has gone faulty.

Did you try holding the 'end of cycle signal' button for 4 seconds?

that sounds weird to have all those lights on...
first thing is to try and remove the "lock"light...
push and hold the button, for 5 seconds, below the "lock" light,
that should get the control back to normal operation. then if you still cant get the unit to turn on, try to unplug the dryer for a few minutes.
if you still cant get it to turn back on, call sears "customer service" and complain since your machine should not have failed at this early in its life.

take a good look and read on your control panel i don't remember which button you need to hold for 3 or 5 second to lock unlock control panel. it is also called child lock system.

look at your controls carefully. somehere you should see a lock (padlock) picture. usually you need to hold one or two buttons for a few second to lock and unlock.

Washer not working properly

The reed switch has been removed from the newer washers of same model. Nothing to do with the switch. Open door and turn the drum. This has happened to me a couple times. If the drum will not turn , try putting a little force on it. Mine acted the same and it was a sock that was stuck. Didn;t know what it was until I removed the boot where the coin trap is . and found a sock hanging down from the tub. stick your fingers up it the tub( with washer unplugged) and check for any material that might be there.

look for a button with lock symbol beside it press and hold button 3-5 secs lock light should go out and control resume operating

try unplugging then hold power button down for 10 secs or so with power removed this may help reset the control bd may even try holding lock button down longer than 3 secs i usually hold until light goes out

This is a designed safety feature of the washer that allows the consumer to lock the control panel to prevent small children from manipulating the controls. It can be inadvertently locked by leaning on the control panel, or during power outages. The instructions are printed on the front panel of the washer and are also included in the owner's manual.
