To record from the set-top box, you need to connect the coax out of the box to the coax in on the recorder (daisy-chain). Then connect the coax out of the recorder to the TV. The DVD/VCR channel needs to be set to Channel 3 or 4 depending on the output of the set-top box. (Check the manual for the cable box for this information.) Then press the TV/Video button if you see noise on the TV. Then set the TV to channel 3 or 4. See page 80 of the manual for setting the RF output of the DVD/VCR unit; the TV must be on to set this properly.
Then set the cable box for the channel that you want to record. If you keep the TV on, you will only be able to watch the channel that is recorded. Unless you have a second source going into the TV on another input.
If you have the video cable connected for a better picture from the DVD (composite or component video, for example), this is separate from the rest of the connections you need. (To watch the DVD, you'd change your input source.)

Don't hook the DVD/VCR recorder through ur cable box.Hook the DVD/VCR recorder through ur tv only it should work find.This way each units have it own direct functions to the tv.U recording the shows from the tv not the cable box ok.
