Hi,
No bulbs to replace except for the CCFL's which is highly unlikely their causing the problem. If you have sound and no picture then either the inverter boards or power supply need repair or replacing. If there is no sound and no picture only the front indicator light is on then this is a power supply problem. It could also be the power supply is sensing a fault from another circuit and shutting its self down to prevent further damage too the TV and electrical fire hazards. The TV is in self-protect-mode because there's a OVP, OCP, detection on one of the circuits. OVP: Over Voltage Protection, OCP: Over Current Protection. This is a very common problem with Vizio LCD TV's so it shouldn't cost much to service this problem at your local shop.

This Unit is not in self protect mode. tvtechwork has no idea what they are talking about. On Vizios with this problem the main board is locked up. symptom is, you can turn the unit on, but you must unplug it to get it to turn off. The main board is locked up and cannot respond to any commands. This also mean the IIC bus is not communicating. This repair requires main board replacement which is out of the question as far as cost is concerned.
Hey quicknick2
When your ready to become a technician contact me.
I know exactly what I am talking about I've repaired thousands of LCD TV's and hundreds of Vizio LCD TV's. If you pay attention to what I wrote above you will see that I stated that the power board could be sensing a fault from another circuit and because of which is shutting its self down. These TV's (like all flat panels) have feedback circuits that monitor and detect any change in voltage or current. The feedback circuits comprise mostly of Opto-Couplers and monolithic IC's which have internal alarms. These signal alarms trigger protection IC's which produce an _ERROR_ signal and from which cancel operating voltage in a faulty area. When voltage or current levels go over or under their threshold level is when feedback signals are induced from OptoCouplers or Opto Isolators. You can learn the basics of protection IC's by going to this link : http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/slus805/slus8...
You can learn the basics of Opto Couplers / Isolators by going here :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opto-isolat...
When a fault is detected from any board in the TV the circuits go into protect mode from "Protection IC's which I briefly explained above. There's no such thing as a LOCK UP, that simply makes no sense and doesn't apply to anything concerning TV repair. You wrote the main board can't respond commands? again theses statements you make are senseless and novice. The main board has a _STANDBY voltage 3.3v- to 5.3v this is why the indicator light is on. This means the main board is responding to a detection of an AC input from the power supply board. The power supply has Opto-Isolators (and an 8 pin PWM IC) producing feedback signals that detection IC's on the main board recognize as erroneous. You wrote that IC BUS are not communicating? what do IC BUS loop binaries have anything remotely to do with OVC, OCP, engagement?..... NOTHING. Again your statements are non-technical and speculative below amateur level.
So in other words,
Because the TV doesn't initiate _Start UP when the power switch actuated or the indicator is on doesn't mean that its a main board logic fault. Understand the power board protects the main board and the main board protects the power board, and monitors inverter function, LCD T-Con boards, and panel operation.
The fault from this TV could be from the power supply , main board, inverter, or LCD T-con. The only way of knowing for sure is to troubleshoot and test the TV but how can you do that over the internet?.......get serious quicknick2!
I know all about the circuits you mentioned. I have doing TV repair for 32 years. I don't need to access one of your links. As for the circuit checks you mentioned, even if you had a detailed schematic where you could make these checks there is no where to access the parts to repair the main board. Power Supply possibly, inverters or formatters no way. You can ramble on about OCP, OVP and all that other **** but with board level repair it is a moot point. You need to get a life circuitworld. There are very few easy repairs on these new Flat Panel units whether we are talking Vizio or any other brand.
Well,
Again you claim you been doing repairs for 32 years that's very hard to believe obviously been 32 years of guessing games instead of actually knowing what your doing. And your electronics education is old, outdated, and stale, your in desperate need of a new electronics refresher course. Its obvious because of the nonsense you wrote again......
How can you say there is no way to access the parts to repair the main board? Any real technician who read that would laugh at you like we are all doing. The parts are called Surface Mount Devices (SMD) probably something your old and stale education has no knowledge of. You can get surface mount parts almost anywhere. Here is a basic link for vendors who will sell you any surface mount part you want or need. :http://www.mouser.com/ and there are countless more.
We have repaired countless main boards at component level and so have many other TV technicians. The parts are very small and are listed on SMD codes here's a very basic link you can look up SMD codeshttp://www.marsport.org.uk/smd/mainframe...
YOU DON"T KNOW ABOUT SMD CODES? Dude this is 2010 your stuck back in the 1970's........ WAKE UP!
YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO TEST, TROUBLESHOOT, AND REPLACE SMD PARTS BECAUSE YOUR EDUCATION IS OLD, OUT DATED, AND OBVIOUSLY USELESS IN 2010!
Get a life? You Need To Get An Electronics Education. Your technical knowledge and skills are that of a 6 year old and that's still giving you the benefit of the doubt. Your obviously not a professional TV technician, your a complete waste of time! The fact that you wrote there are very few easy repairs on flat panels say's that your knowledge of modern TV repair is grotesquely limited, distorted, with 0% value.
Cant access parts on a main board..............WOW! we can't believe you wrote that!
What a JOKE!
This is my Last Reply to an Idiot!! Goes like this Guru(which, evidently is a contradiction in terms). I have Hot Air Equipment and Desoldering Equipment. I know about SMD repair. I also know that manufacturers will not sell component parts for main board repair and most any other board in the unit. Some of the IC's on these main boards cannot even be replaced even with Hot Air Equipment.. Some require equipment such as a Zephyr. As for you troubleshooting prowess evidently you haven't the slightest idea of simple troubleshooting techniques. As regards the Vizio model here, it goes like this. The unit will power up. Therefore you cannot be missing the 5 volt standby or the 3.3v reset, this is a given. Also the Upc clock must be operating. As for the OVP, And OVC. Vizio does not use one. How do I know. Because when the OVP or OCP circuit is actiivated on a TV the unit does not remain on. It returns to standby mode. The Vizio does not return to standby mode it stays powered up. I would also add that from what I have gathered from working on Vizios they do not have an OVP or OCP protect circuit. So the symptom idicates a main board communication problem. The upc is not communicating with one or more processor ICs on the main board. Possibly the bus. And the only fix for this problem is replace the main board. About $ 150.00 if it is available and that is my cost on it. As for parts procurement. I stick by exactly what I said. The manufacturer does not supply component level parts for these board. Of course you can be an idiot and try to access them on the web somewhere using the generic numbers maybe but it if is a Scaler, Formatter or other sophisticated IC you probably won't find it. I do this for a living, I don't sit on some web site and stroke my own ego. As a matter of fact you sound like an amateur to me looking for attention. As I say this is my last post to this ignorance.
Have a nice day Guru. As I say you need to get a life.
You have been disrespectful from the first post you made, you could have made your point in a more respectful way. Then you would not have gotten such a technical beat down from us, but I see you like the punishment so lets go :-)
quicknick2, your not a TV technician! Your an old nut case, and your technical proficiency is quite retarded too.
OK well obviously once again you prove too the world of TV repair that your a mis-educated circuit clown . Just by you mentioning the fact that you have to go through TV manufacturers to obtain surplus SMD parts show's that your knowledge of SMD technology is just as hollow as your old, stale brain. It doesn't make sense to continue on posting lessons too a stupid, misinformed narrow mind such as yours.
Oh yeah,
Of course we found numerous pointless statements you made above once again that are technically senseless, much like your peanut sized senseless brain. First you wrote Vizio doesn't use OVP, and OCP, then you contradict that by saying OVP, OCP are only activated when the TV doesn't come on?....wow your a complete JOKE DUDE! and there are 2 more technical contradictions you made for a 3rd time. You should have your own cable show, and call it ******* CANT REPAIR SMD'....
For your information *******, TV manufacturers don't make most of the circuit parts you see on the boards. So why on earth would you depend on TV manufacturers to get SMD parts? Oh I know why' because your a ******* not a TV technician. These circuit components are made by companies that specialize in making circuit parts. When Sony (or any electronics manufacturer) are ready to build their TV circuits for mass production they pick and choose which manufacturer of circuit parts they will use to mount on their boards. A carpenter doesn't make the materials to build a house other companies do that. The carpenter puts it all together to build a house. Well its the same for TV manufacturers as they pick which parts they will buy to make a TV. Again I say your a seriously misinformed and uneducated *******, a true nut case you are indeed!
No sense in continuing to point out the worthless nonsense you wrote for a 3rd time, you already displayed to us how much you don't know! Your circuit and industry knowledge is child level, and again that's giving you the benefit of the doubt.
And by the way I perform more TV repairs in one week than you will accomplish in 6 months, I take 10 or 15 minutes (or longer) from my time to respond here at Fixya. Any time you want to compare livelihoods I'll put you to shame at the very least. Your a circuit clown, in fact your just a clown PERIOD.
Your knowledge of electronic circuits represent a major skid mark on the underpants of TV Repair. Your mind smells bad, take a shower by getting some updated electronics education for your smelly brain. YUK!
...........and stop being jealous of the world just because your skills and your life-style are bacteria level!
CLOWN.
Hi there. I have read both of your posts and guess what...while you are argueing I am not getting an understanding as to what is wrong with the TV....You guys are not very professtional on this website to go on the way you did. Ii am appalled at this thread. What is someone to think who is coming here to actually find answeres as to what their problem might be.with their TV?
