Magnavox Model: 27MS343S, Serial: DN1A0338157832, Manufactured: September 2003 - Problem is: TV turns on as soon as plugged in. Scans channels by itself, even when batteries are out of remote. Volume goes all the way up, then down, changes channels. I can manually use the TV buttons on the front panel, but then the TV will start doing its own thing again. (Remote control is not operating the TV.) How can I fix this? I'm on a tight budget and want to fix this myself.

I'm not sure about the model number of your TV, as here it is marked as both "27MS343S and 32MF338B/F7". Anyway I gies this solution as for the first denoted.
Insert antena to the antena socket at the back side of your TV marked as 75Ohms antena input.
[1] Press "Menu" button on the remote control handset to display menu on screen.
[2] Press "Vol+ or Vol--" button repetedly to hilight "TUN" [Tuner].
[3] Press "Ch+ or Ch--" button to hilight 'AUTOPROGRAM"
[4] Press "Vol+" to programming tv channels.
Tv will tune and store channels transmitted channels at that time, through entire bands, and will display the first channel receved after tuning process completed. It may take some minutes. You have to wait it to complete. After displaying the first channel, you can select your favourite channel Using CH+ or CH--" buttons. Ok.

U the remote to turn to the channel 3.

What brand is your universal remote? Best thing would be to go on the universal remote manufactures website and they should have a list of codes for models based on what model number your universal remote is. Then you can look up possible codes for your tv found in the users manual (which you can print from online) and it gives you like 5-7 codes that you try and will give you instructions on how to enter the code and save that code to your remote. hide all your remote controlls and put some tape over the front cover of the tv where you think the remote control reciever may be , if this fixes it then it means something is amiss with a rogue remote , most likely batterys..could even be sunlight ??

Need more info.....The model# or Chassis# and possiby the year manufactured.

Hi, Sorry it does not. It has an NTSC tuner which is analog. It will work after the change if you have cable or satellite. Hope this helps!

Yes, you will need a converter box. Most TVs manufactured before 2004 do not have a digital tuner.

You are right about the auto-programming, but Magnavox no longer has the original remote.
