My technic 1210 is only playing through one channel can you help with telling me how to repair

In my business I work on a lot of turntables. Specifically, Memorex, Anders Nicholson, Innovative Technology and Emerson. 99% of the time when I only have sound coming out of one channel it is due to a broken cartridge. If you look at the tone arm head from underneath you will see a rubber fork that the needle arm sits in. There are usually 2 ceramic cartridges attached to the rubber fork. Those transmit the sounds from the needle. If one of those brakes then that channel will not transmit any sound.

Well i would go ahead a ground it to the receiver/power amp Casing screw. This seams to work.

Have you considered the amp to be the problem? The amp has a magnetic cartridge pre-amp, which only the turntables would use, that can fail. It's often a single IC that has gone.

Two causes a bad cartridge, or something wrong with the pre-amp for turntables in your amp. Reversing the leads into the amp should make the poor channel go to the other side. If it doesn't it's the pre-amp. If it is the pre-amp, they are not to diffcult to fix. Most are just an IC with a few components around it.

Since this is a direct-drive turntable, it isn't a slipping or stretched belt. You will need a technician with a couple pieces of equipment and some experience/training to find the source of the problem. I suspect the part(s) will be the minor cost of the repair.

Make sure your 2nd turntable is connected to the PHONO input of your DJ Mixer or Receiver. If you have it connected to LINE IN or AUX IN, the turntable will be very low, as this model requires a phono pre-amp to amplify it's signal.

If this is set up correctly, then you might want to check your cartridge. Can you swap the cartridges out to see if the problem remains on the same turntable, or if it switches to the other turntable. If it switches, then you know the problem is with the cartridges.

If that checks out ok, you might have an issue with the RCA cables or Tonearm or both. At this stage, I would suggest taking it to a service center for assistance.

On the 1200MK2 the pitch control slider is for just that purpose. Disregard the 0 setting and use the illuminated strobe marks on the platter to adjust to nominal speed. When they appear to be motionless you are there. The control on the 1210 may be a knob but the same principles apply.

No flying screws on the lamp (on this model anyway) you should have no problems!

Could be one of 3 issues:

1) Tonearm
2) RCA Cables
3) Cartridge/Styli

I generally tell people to try different cartridges first. If that doesn't work, then you know it's either your tonearm or your RCA cables. 80% of the time, it's the RCA cables. It's very hard to determine which one it is at this point without opening her up and putting on some new RCA cables to test. If it works, then your good. If not, then you know it's your tonearm, and will need to be replaced.
