I suspect that the lower door latch has broken off. The lower hook is actuated by the push lever and in turn lifts the upper latch that of course is not being lifted.
Disconnect from the supply.
Remove the case from the microwave and you will see how the door latch actuator works. Lift it manually and you can open the door.
Do not try and use the appliance in that condition as it will take out its mains fuse as the door switches and latches for a safety interlock.
Hope this helps.

I have a Panasonic Microwave Model NN-SD277. How do you access the workings of the door opener button? It is broken so the door won't open.

You have to remove the outer cover, the plastic lift levers are behind the door open button / lever. Caution!, panasonic discontinued a lot of those and getting a replacement part can be hard at times. Dont waste your time trying to glue it. After watching people try to glue or epoxy those cheap plastic parts for so many years. I have to warn folks to not waste your time trying. .It will not hold!!!! Look online and try to find a replacement part somewhere. It will be one of two parts. the door open button you push, or the door open lever that the front button pushes against. If you unplug the unit and remove the outer cover simply look behind the front control panel and when you push the button to open the door you will see where it is supposed to lift to open the door. The broke part is your problem, may be a piece laying in the bottom.

Door latch

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Open Lever If the microwave door won't open the open lever might be broken. This part can be replaced separately.

Door Spring If the microwave door won't open the door spring may have broken. The door spring is located inside the door and keeps downward pressure on the door hook.

Door Latch If the microwave door won't open the door latch might be broken. The door latch is inside the microwave. The door hook, which is part of the door, engages with the latch to keep the door closed during operation. If the door latch or actuator breaks the door may not open.

Door Hook If the microwave door won't open the door hook might not be releasing properly. The door hook is installed inside the door and normally releases when the door is opened. The hook is made of plastic and will break over time. When this happens it will need to be replaced, it can't be repaired.

Button Spring If the microwave door won't open the button spring might be broken internally. The button spring can be replaced.
Button If the microwave door won't open the button might be broken internally. The button can be replaced.

Handle Actuator If the microwave door won't open the handle actuator might be broken. This is a plastic part which can become brittle over time. This part is connected between the door button and the door latch assembly.

I have a Panasonic Model #NN-S255 microwave oven. The button you push to open the door does not open the door. It's like there is no resistance when you push the button therefore it does not push up...

Hello,To get the door open and salvage your dinner, take a long thin blade ( I used a frosting spreader) and insert from the bottom between the door and the oven frame on the side with the latches (usually next to the control panel). You may have to pry the bottom of the door open just a bit. The object is to push up the lower door latch (which is connected to the upper door latch) and manually open the door. You may have to try a few times but this worked perfectly for me and saved dinner. Obviously the door latch needs to be repaired but this solves the immediate problem of dinner being held hostage by a recalcitrant microwave.
wish you good luck,
take care.

I have a Sharp Microwave Carousel R-420B. I put a bowl of soup in , closed the door, pressed Minute Plus, and hit Stop with approx 20 seconds to go... pressed the door release but nothing happened... door...

Hello,

Usually, the door lever or hinges is the cause of this type of problem.

But in this case, I don't think the door lever or hinge is the cause of your problem.

I think the door is jammed and only needs some force before is can open or unjam.

Use your hands or a flat Philips screw driver to forcefully open the door. Don't apply too much force. Just apply a reason amount of force that could open the oven door.

Before you attempt to forcefully open the microwave door, leave it for about 45mins to 1hr, after that forcefully open the door.

If the above doesn't help to open the door, please let me know so that I can direct you further.

I wish you good luck.

Regards.

Mine does this occasionally, and it's because the door hinges have got a bit out of line, allowing the door to drop slightly, so the catch mechanism won't quite disengage.
Look along the bottom edge of the door and see if it has dropped lower than the front panel next to it. Try applying a bit of upward pressure on the bottom edge with your fingers, while pulling towards you at the same time, and with your other hand press the release button.

If that gets it open, remove last night's failed meal, open the door fully and carefully force it up a bit at a time, to bend the hinges back to level - keep pushing the door back so it nearly closes, and look at the bottom edge to check on progress. When the bottom of the door looks level with the panel , try closing it fully and see if the release button will open it again.

Good luck!

Can not open the door in microwave the release button springs seem to not working can that be fixed. Have opened the release button but cannot see the problem

Do not pry the door open since there is an easier remedy which will lead you in the direction that you need to fix your problem. Take the cover off after you disconnect the power to it. Once you have taken the cover off (only a few screws) you will be able to see the two latches that hold the door closed and the link that opens both of them. You can just lift both latches at the same time and it will open. After you have done that take a good look and press in on the open door button and you will see where you have the problem of the door hanging. That button should push a linkage that pushes up on both latches at once to open the door. It is spring loaded so that it comes back down so that when you close the door it will hold the door close. You need to take the cover off the microwave so that you can pull both of the latches that hold the door closed up. When you push the button in it engages a linkage that pushes both taches up at the same time to open the door. It is springloaded and will come back down during normal operation to hold the door closed when you close it again. That area is where your problem is. By looking at what happens when you press the open door button you should be able to readily see where the problem lies in that linkage

This is a built in microwave with a push button to open the door. Push button won't work and door won't open.

It may be a broken door open lever or a worn or broken door open button.

If it's an owner the range type, you can likely get to and replace the door latch parts by just removing the control panel assembly.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If it's a counter top unit, you will need to remove the outer cover to get to the door latching parts.

Once it is apart, you'll be able to see how the door open button would press against the door open lever, which would then lift up against the door latch heads (hook-like projections on the door) and the door should open.

Stuck Microwave door

In most cases this is due to a broken door opening lever or loose or broken door latch / hook parts. They can only be accessed and examined if the cover is removed from the microwave. In many over the range models, you can access the door parts by removing the control panel assembly. Sometimes you may be able to get it open by pushing up gently on the bottom of the door while pushing the button, in case you need to empty it.
