I have a huskvarna 254XP and I contiue to break the pull cord after 3-4 starts, I must be replacing the cord wrong. what is the proper installation of the pull cord?

If you have intermittent spark, your coil is going bad... time for a new one. Amazon sells an aftermath for a good price. Try this, remove the plug, spray carb cleaner in the hole, then install the plug. Give 2 slow pulls, then pull normally. If the unit starts for a few seconds, your problem is the carburetor.

The pull start assembly is usually attached by 3 or 4 bolts.
Start by removing it. Depending on where the pull cord broke, you may be able to use it shortened a bit, but replacement is probably a good idea.
There is a spring inside the thing the cord winds around (spool)that retracts it after you've pulled on it. The tricky part is making sure that the spring is wound up enough after you've installed the replacement cord.
Look at the way the old cord is installed. If you can, grab it with some pointy pliers and pull it all the way out, winding up the spring tension at the same time. There should be a way to hold the spool (look for a hole you can slip the end of a nail into) so you can change the cord. Then Take the nail out and make sure the cord retracts all the way.
Next step is to re-install it on the mower.

Compression release! Is that not normally applicable on compressors? One normally has to open the compressor tank valve before being able to start the compressor motor so that the motor does not have to be started "on-load". Is what you are looking for (the Smart Start as you mentioned) not maybe a basic clutch assembly between motor and chain drive assembly that has failed?

I have the same problem. My game didn't like loading to begin with and wanted me to uninstall even though when I clicked on the button it wouldn't allow me to uninstall.

I FINALLY managed to get it to install properly and was glad cases 1 and 2 loaded properly but have no idea why 3 won't load.

Have you managed to find a solution yet? Any help would be greatly appreciated please!!

Remove the top engine flywheel & pull cord cover

Most likely dirty,as well as worn out. or the cord
is in the wrong place,you will see that,once apart

You can work on it some & down the road
get a new one if you have to

sounds like a rich mixture stihl and huskvarna oil has the same makeup dealers have test tubes for warranty service that tells them what oil was used and will not warranty if wrong oil is used with the proper oil your saw will last for a long time cheap oil does not have the additives needed too keep rings free and inhibit carbon buidlup

Part of the cord must of got into the clutch if its not the retracting mechanisem or spring you are on the right track. The olny question i have is if its a 2007 why did the cord fail so quickly. rebuild it you will find the answer I can't see it and you sound vary capabale of fixing this

You have to understand its a cord spulled around a recoil spring. The coed likely didn't rewind correctly one time. However the entire unit unbolts with three screws.Remove the unit from the engine and check the cord and realine the core raping path as well as check the return recoil spring function. If you can not realign you can replace the unit as a part. After the first pull the engine has pressure to and that makes it harder to pull to.But try re alinging the assembly i have to do it to mine and its a 1964 and it still works

not completely sure but Ill give it a shot
might be something is going wrong with your monitor
or your monitor ID was not established try these 3 things
1. right click display after attaching trouble some monitor
go to properties click detect see if it identifies it properly then go to screen saver tab look under power saver mode is this monitor put under there if so change it.


2 go to control panel click on device manager scan plug and play then look under drivers is the right product listed and updated

3. ok this happens a lot look at the pins on both ends of your VGA cord monitor cord are they all there and line up properly ?
if they are missing then its your problem if bent gently with an object slowly push them back into place be very careful when you do this or they will break if the cord is shot and you can replace it theyre are some great cheap but nice cords even optical enhancing online pretty cheap

sounds like the spring is broken itself.there should be a hook at one end and a loop at the other end.the hook usualy breaks off but the spring looks good.replace the spring with part number..4140 190 0600 ....that is the stihl part number.let me know if this helped you...if not give me a quick mail and i'll try to help some more......
