How far away are they? It sounds to me like they are in the same room???

If so, you are getting feed back. CB's are not meant to be that close. As well, the also would raise another issue. Are their antenna's hooked up?

CB radio's need a CB antenna or you can damage the radios. The radio energy will not leave the radio and burn up the transmit section of the radio.

the both need an antenna, and the antenna needs to be tuned.

Also, if you are operating them close like that, you can also damage the receive on the radios.

also, when 2 radios are too close, it over loads the receive circuits on the radio ant thats why its garbled.

148 gtl cobra cb radio and the rx/tx light stay on

This sounds like a problem with the MB3756 Regulator IC. It controls voltage regulation and TX/RX Switching. It is a common failure in these radios. Check voltages with schematic that can be found at

Cobra 148 gtl-st wont transmit but receives great

Check first your microphone

• check if TX is engaging when PTT is pushed.

• check for continuity ( mic and cable )

If you have not done these steps,

try it first, or borrow other compatible mic for Cobra 148GTL

from your friends on air.

Micgain

Hi,

Offhand, pls try:
  • If the high pitch sound (feedback) occurs during the receive, then you need to check the switch inside the microphone and verify that the audio line is not directly connected mic element wire; it should pass through the switch. Alternately, it may be the switch that is shorted. If you are using a power mic, you may have to lower the settings a bit or decrease the gain;
  • If the feedback occurs during transmit, you need to check the TX/RX regulator and switching circuitry. In some cases this would also be true if you are using a linear amp and the grounding is not adequate and/or the SWR relatively high.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
