Canon S2 IS

After all the standard troubleshooting - still when I turn the camera on, when I look thru lens, it is completely black.
Sometimes will show icons when I scroll thru that disp. icon settings.
Other than that, as though there is a black screen in front of lens (yes, the lens cover is off).
Can take pictures, but again, all black.

Your camera has the know issue of Stuck shutter, whichhappens after some time (weeks or months) thata camera is notused.

Unfortunately the repair of it requires a complete disassembly of the camera, including the lens, fix it, and then put back together everything.

Definitely requires th skills, tools and experience to do it, so it's recommended that a professional camera repair center is performing this type of repair.

If you look for a reliable and low cost repair service for it, you can look in ebay for such repair services.

Example, look for seller ID Great_items_2004 or with the keywords "Shutter black S2".

No picture in the display, this is a canon powershot S2

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras, particularly for the S2 IS. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Have a Powershot S2 IS, and when turn camera on in record mode, there is no image appearing. No image appearing when looking thru view finder either. any ideas on issue?

this means there is a problem with your lens system. If Lens system seems ok then problem may be with the CCD/CMOS repairing which will be pretty costly and will need a expert hands to fix it.

BLACK SCREEN

Hi,

The black screen problem means the lens sensor is spoiled due to over exposure to heat. Its better to give it to Canon service centre. If your camera is under warranty period its well and good they will replace the lens sensor for free of cost.

My Canon S2 IS Powershot camera LCD screen turned black

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras, ESPECIALLY for the S2 IS (you should actually complain to Canon at 1-800-OK-CANON. If it is indeed a sticky shutter, they have been fixing this for free). The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). Cannon PowerShot S2 IS lens is stuck

I have the exact same problem, took it completely apart removed the zoom motor, physically turned the zoom gear and retracted the lens, reinstalled the motor, put it all back together, and found that I had the same problem and the lens wouldn't move out, so im pretty certain that the motor is bad, as the lens moves smoothly once the motor is not attached to it... looking for a replacement motor as i type...
