Help needed on fixing a Samsung LCD TV (LN-S4051D). The 1.5 year old TV won’t turn on. There is no picture or sound. When plugged in, a click sound was first heard followed by the red LED light blinking 4 times (next to the power button on the panel). Then the click sound came back again with 4 blinks of the LED light. The whole thing went into a cycle while the power button on the panel and the remote are not functioning.
I did some research and followed the suggestions on a “similar” problem brought on this forum. I replaced the IP board (power board) with a new one. The problem still existed. Then I checked all the capacitors on the PCB board (the main board) and found no blown ones. My question is that what is the real problem of the TV, and if it’s worth to spend another 300 dollars to replace the PCB board. (I already spent over 100 bulks on a new IP board). BTW, the TV cost me 1300 dollars when I bought it. Thank you.
I had the same problem. I live in NJ and called the local authorized "service provide" listed on the Samsung website. What a joke. Quoted $350 just to show up, never showed up. So I opened my own TV. Took off the plastic back (10 screws) took off the large metal RF shield (12-14 screws) and noticed a blown component. The markings on the component were KL15L and it is apparently an NTC Thermistor. Obviously it got fried and not knowing if there was other damage I decided to set out to replace the entire Power PCB Board Assembly and not the component. There were two part numbers on the assembled board (BN97-00457E & BN94-00622E). After searching online I also found a suitable replacement number for these (BN96-04896A). I found two places who claimed to have the part or have it on order (shopjimmy.com and vancebaldwin.com). After placing orders with both and having neither come through, I broadened my search and found out that the LNR409D was basically the same model as my LNR408D so I looked for its Power PCB Board Assembly part number which turned out to be BN41-00521B. Google search for that part number showed the item available on ebay. I bought it a week ago (ebay 260311519904) for $144 plus $12 shipping. I removed the bad board an hour ago (6 screws about 7 connectors) installed the new one, plugged in the connectors, replaced the covers, plugged in the TV... AND IT WORKS!
Suggestion: If your TV is out of warranty then open it up (what have you got to lose) and see if the problem is obvious and maybe something you can fix (replace) yourself. The parts, spare boards, etc. are out there if you look.
I am having a problem with my 40' samsung LN40A530P1FXZA and they came and fixed the capacitor, and power board and it was not the problem my tv is only 2 1/2 yrs old and they are telling me there is nothing they can do for me... this is insane and im ready to contact the better business burrow and show them all the comments on these sites. Good luck to everybody with their samsung tv's I will never again buy a samsung television!!!!!
I had the same problem, but found when messing about with the power cord behind the tv it clicked on ( just pull the power cord out slightly & Bingo TV again) reading all these other solutions and the cost people have gone through started getting me worried. Good luck everyone hope this works for you. Never buy a Samsung again, may look nice but thats all...??

Great post. It seems replacing PCB board works for this problem. As I posted on Jul 29, 2008, I replaced the IP board, which is the power board and it didn't work. The IP board I replaced is the small one with electricity gets in.
I guess the Power PCB board you referred to is the larger board with all the HDMI ports and antenna connections. Is that right?
If this is the case, people with this problem should try to replace the PCB main board first. It's very likely to solve the problem. If your TV is still under warranty, call Samsung to fix it.

People if you can fix your tvs thats great! However please understand there is a incredible amount of HIGH VOLTAGE running through any television and if you do not know what your doing it can be fatal. please be careful.

Thanks for the post - I replaced the IP board BN44-00134A purchased from Encompass for 91.58 plus shipping. It was quite easy to replace and I am so glad I found comments where others had success.

I'm having the exact same problem with the TV not turning on and the blinking red light, also clicking like the tv is trying to turn on. I took my tv to a repair shop and the guy said it would be $500 to fix. He said around $315 for the circuit board and then the rest for his services. He explained to me that this problem with the defective circuit board was already there when I bought the set, it just didn't mess up until now. My tv is 2 1/2 yrs. old. I picked up my tv and went and bought me a new one, but not a Samsung!! Who's to say the new circuit board might be defective as well and go out again in 2yrs!! By reading your problem, I guess there is more than one circuit board, didn''t know that.
Hickchick569, thanks for sharing the information. There are TWO major boards in this TV set. One is called IP board, which is a power board, and the other one is a PCB board, Printed Circuit Board. I guess the service person you dealt with referred to this one. The cost of the board is about right. Both boards could turn bad in Samsung TVs after 1-2 year usage. Unfortunately, I replaced the IP board first, which didn't solve the problem. I guess the PCB board of mine is bad. I am hesitating to spend another 300 dollars to try to fix it.
I found out my tv is actually only 1 1/2yrs old instead of 2 1/2 like I stated before so I decided to call Samsung. After getting kind of ugly to them on the phone about the main circuit board being defective, they agreed to pay for any parts needed to fix my tv but I have to pay for the labor. That sounds fair to me.
The labor Samsung charges is $280. I am glad to know Samsung decided to replace the parts for you for free. Could you please post here what parts are replaced after your TV is serviced? I believe we have the same problem. I will see if I could fix mine based on your experience.
It only takes 10 mins to replace the board inside. But I need to find out exactly which one needs to be changed. Thanks, hickchick569.
My 40" LCD has just started to do something very similar. When I turn it on, either with the remote or the front button, it cycles the red LED on the front a few times then makes a click sound as if it's about to turn on but it doesn't. This last for about 10 seconds before it finally switches on.
I have the exact same problem. My Samsung LN-S4051D's LED flashes four times, goes black, clicks twice, then the LED flashes again four times. This repeats for hours to no avail. I called SAMSUNG, but they kept telling me it was out of warranty (it's 1.5 years old). I told them that it appears to be a defective PCB (after reading this forum), and I wanted to know why I had to pay for a defective circuit board that seems to have been made to go bad after 1.5 years. She put me on hold to talk with her supervisor who then recommended that we get a Service Transaction Number and have a SAMSUNG authorized repairman look at it to determine the problem; I am then told I can take up the fight on the issue after a service tech has looked at it. Any suggestions on how I should fight this (especially since the 1-year warranty is over)?
I have the same exact problem stated above, basically the TV won't turn on, but clicks like it's trying to. Quite frustrating considering the quality implied with the price of the item.
I have a series 5 LA40A550.
Randomly won't turn on after the LED blinks 6 times then goes out.
Turning the power off and back on again usuallly gets it to turn back on.
Replaced Power board and main PC board...didn't fix it.
Samsung said latest 1011 firmware would fix it...it didn't.
They then added a resister to one of the boards...that didn't fix it.
Then they replaced Tv with a new one that had the mod done and had latest firmware...it just played up again...won't turn on! (need to pull the power cord).
They've admitted that this is a problem across the Series 4,5 and 6 2008 models.
Samsung engineers came out to Australia and took away my 1st TV to test it.
I'll be ringing them tomorrow to probably demand a refund to buy a different brand if they haven't sorted the problem out yet.
This has been going on for a couple of months now.

I have a two year old lns4051dx, and it too is doing the same thing. it clicks like it wants to turn on, but nothing. at first the audio wouldn't come on, so i would turn it off and then back on. then it started to not want to turn on at all, it would click for about 2-5 minutes before it came on, until it finally stopped turning on yesterday. Samsung told me that it could possibly be the IP-power board. Now I'm going to try to call them to fix it.
I just bought a Samsung 40" flat screen (not sure of the model number since I am at work)on July 13, 2008. A few days ago...while watching a football game, the tv turned it self off. Then, the red LCD light kept blinking along with the happy little welcome tune the tv plays when it turns on or off, kept going off and on as if it was trying to turn itself on. We called the place where we bought it (Best Buy) and the best they could do was send a teck to come look at it (that won't be for another 2 weeks!). We asked if we could just bring the tv back and get a new one since it is only 3 1/2 months old and they said no. We then asked if we could buy an extended warranty and they said no. If this tv keeps going bad, within the next 12 months (after the 1year factory warranty is complete), does anyone know how I should approach the situation? I mean...I have a 15 year old Sony tv that weights about 400 pounds that still works. Shouldn't a $1400 tv last more than a year? Can I sue Best Buy or Samsung? I don't mean to be a ***** but I will be damned if I am going to spend another $1400+ for a new tv in the next year. I am so pissed off I can hardly think!
Same problem light blinks then clicking sound will not turn on or off .How can you tell which part to replace ? Seems Samsung should recall and replace the defective part .
I live in Atlanta GA and i'm experiencing the same issue with a 40 inc set I bought last year. I called Samsung service repairs and they told me that the unit was out of warranty and refered me to a local service reapir. After calling the repair company he diagnose my problem as being a bad power supply and since my unit is out of warranty he wanted to know if I would pay for the repair.
I called Samsung service back after i looked at this site and discovered that so many people were experiencing this problem with that model. I told the rep that Samsung should pay for the part and labor and he asked me to fax a sales receipt for proof of purchase. He advise me to wait for 3 to 4 days to receive a decision from corporate on who will pay for the repair. So I'm waiting and keeping my fingers crossed.
I already replaced the power supply and that did not make any difference. I have read that the mother board is the problem. Is there something I can replace on the board or where can I get a new board?
