Try laying down a piece of paper, then carefully flip the laptop screen side down and tap gently along the bottom of the laptop with a plastic utensil to dislodge food debris then make sure there is jammed under the keys....if that doesn't resolve your problem you have the option of using Windows On-screen Keyboard by selecting Start Menu/Programs/Ease of Access when the keyboard pops up on the screen you can now use your mouse to type whenever you have an empty text box, Look for the Options Key located on the Bottom Right if you'd like to add a numeric keypad as well, just be sure to pin it to your task bar...last but not least, you can invest in a wireless usb keyboard and voila! problem solved Best of Luck!
Flip keyboard consist of flex connector inside and this could be damage due to fliptop mechanism that usually in used.malfunction of its key may result by cutting or breaking the flex connector and this is not repairable, possible to replace the flex connector and only service center can fix this problem.

Try this. Touch Keypad simulates a wireless phone keypad on the touch screen to
allow you to enter text, numbers, and symbols just as if you were using
a wireless phone keypad. Touch Keyboard simulates a 20-key QWERTY
(typewriter) keyboard on the touch screen to allow you to enter text,
numbers, and symbols similar to the way you would using a QWERTY
keyboard. To use Touch Keypad or Touch Keyboard: In a program, tap
the Input Selector arrow, and then tap Touch Keypad or Touch Keyboard.
To type lowercase letters, tap the keys on the dial pad or keyboard. To
type a single uppercase letter, tap the Shift key and then tap the
corresponding key. To type all uppercase letters, tap the Shift key
twice. To change back to all lowercase letters, tap again. To enter a
space after the word, tap the Space key. To start a new line, tap the
Enter key. To backspace and delete a single character in any input
mode, press the Back key. To open the Symbol pad, tap the Symbol key.
To change the input mode: Tap the Input mode key to switch to a
different input mode: XT9 (predictive), Multitap (abc), or Numeric
(123).
Hope this helps, let me know if this works or if I can help you with anything else. JimmyC
i have p990i smart phone but now its flip keypad is not working its 1,2,3, and main menu swith are workin .now what i do ??? please give me the sugestion
Hi.
I had the same problem with my p990i. I stripped the flipped down and inspected the microswitch which gets activated when the flip is closed. The mountings and actuators get worne out after prolonged use. I cleaned everything out and reseated the switch correctly. Worked fine after that. If you do not have a bit of technical experience, i don't suggest you do it yourself. The ribbon cable is very easy to break.
Hope this helps
The Numeral Lock mode is turned on by pressing the key named "NUM LOCK" which is usually located on the top of the number keypad (on far right side of keyboard).
However, laptop keyboards are different. Most laptops do not have a separate numeral keypad set. Those laptops usually use a blue (or other color-coded) "Fn" key, on the bottom left. You must press that Fn key at the same time as the "Num Lock" key of same colr. Then a light comes on to indicate the mode change, and some alpha-numeric keys on the keyboard now become your numeral keypad. On mine, it is 789, UIO (456), JKL (123) and M (which is zero).
If this is too confusing, you can plug in a cheap full size desktop keyboard, using the USB or PS2 port on your laptop. That is what I prefer, because the funky integrated dual-key deal interferes with all the touch-typing I learned 37 years ago.
just try this one
