The TV seems like it is completely dead. The indicator lights haven't come on at all, since it first went dead. When I unplugged the AC adapter I smelt an odor coming from the end of the power cord that plugs into the adapter. The TV is only 6 years old and kept in very good condition, so it seems unlikely that it would be dead. I think it may be just the AC adapter itself, but I'm not sure. Would it be possible for this TV to die this quickly, or is this probably a problem with the adapter itself?
Yes with an LCD it can be dead. The life of LCD is not nearly that of a tube TV. It depends on the hours of use. Most likely time to replace it. Good luck, Lee

Check the FBT for high voltages?Resolders the FBT?Unplug,replug the tv an hour later,let the tv reset itself back to factory mode.Tries these steps,tv might function again.

If have already unplugged and waited for atleast 15min. and still no success. Then only if you are Electronicly inclined. Check to see if you get dead completely or you get an indicator light momentarly. Which these are two different symptoms. first dead no indicator. check R931,E994,Q777. Then if indicator light comes on and goes off, check E994 which is fuse opening, C707-1000pf 2kv cap, also check D915, I601, IK04, and 05
