I NEED THE INSTRUCTIONS TO INPUT A MOVIE RECORDED ON THE GZ-HD7U TO A MACBOOK PRO.  I HAVE A FIREWIRE CABLE TO GO FROM THE HD7U TO THE LAPTOP.  I LOST MY PREVIOUS INSTRUCTIONS.  I HAVE IMPORTED A NUMBER OF MOVIES PREVIOUSLY.
IS THERE UPDATED SOFTWARE FROM EITHER JVC OR APPLE?
I HAVE THE LATEST VERSION OF IMOVIE.
I APPRECIATE YOUR OFFER TO HELP.

I have a similar problem with my transferring of film from camera to MacBookPro. I can see the commands (rewind, fast forward, etc...) on the computer, but no video). I'm going to contact JVC, try and fix the problem, and then never buy a product from them again if I can't (and as a media teacher, I spend $10,000 a year on cameras x 35 years).

You CAN NOT use the Firewire to capture your footage like DV or HDV camcorders. I too Have a macbook pro and use FCPS2 to edit my footage. If you want to get the footage off of the HD7u, you'll have to connect via USB2.0 and download the .TOD files and use a program to convert them. I use MPEGStreamclip. It will work with the .TOD files and convert them to a format that iMovie or FInal Cut will understand. If this is not for professional work you'll probably be fine converting the footage to the HDV standard or DV standard and not have to render in FCP to edit the footage.
Caution... MPEG2 codec may be needed. If you have FCP or have Quicktime pro, you probably already have it other wise you can purchase it from apple for $29.99 or if you try real hard (not to hard) you can probably find it on a torrent for free.
I hope this helps your situation

My macbook pro recognized my JVC JY HD10U but won't recognize the image from the screen in order to import what I've filmed.

I am not sure what software you are trying to use, but if you are using quicktime for example to import your footage it should be very easy. Once you connect the camera in playback mode to your macbook with a firewire cable open up quicktime then go to file-> New Movie recording. From there it should see a camera connected but no video. Hit the record button and then start playback on the camera. You should then see the video start to record onto the mac. Let the entire video play though and when it is done hit stop and you have you files! You can now use those in virtually any video editing software!
Hope that helps!

Hi, I'm wondering if you can help, I have a Sony DCR-TRV340E camcorder and wish to take the video footage from one of the tapes and record/stream it onto my MacBook pro. I've tried using the USB cable...

*reason for not streaming the video: its because you're using the wrong type of cable to stream it to a macbook

*type of cable needed: you need a firewire cable to stream videos from your camcorder to your macbook.

*please make sure to check if your macbook has a firewire(IEEE) port on it and also make sure what type of firewire port it has( 4 pin or 6 pin firewire port)

*check your macbook specification for a firewire port and make sure to check how mny pinslot it has before buying a firewire cable.

* the other end of a firewire cable would surely fit the camcorder and the other end would depend on the firewire port available in your macbook.

* you would also be needing an application on your macbook that would record streamed videos.

No disc for my JVC Everio GZ-HD7U

You don't need the disc. Buy Corel's latest videostudio x2 for editing. To extract the video files from camera just plug into computer with USB cable and search the camera for files.

Can I stream live video from Firewire interface?

Veodia’s recently released streaming-video software is easy to use. Really easy. We’re talking plug-and-play easy. Plug your DV camera into your computer and put it in record mode. Log into Veodia.com and hit “new broadcast.” And you’re live. Instantly. And when you’re done, you hit stop and the video you’ve just streamed is available on demand through your favorite RSS feeder. Instantly. And it works.

When you hit “start broadcast” Veodia takes about 5 seconds while “detecting bandwidth.” The end product is a 320 x 240 live video feed streaming right out of your Firewire DV camera or webcam. This video is embeddable anywhere, meaning you can have this live feed be part of your blog and your viewers don’t need to be registered Veodia members. And each broadcast comes built in with a chatroom for your viewers to interact with you, the webstar, live.
