CPU Can you upgrade the CPU to a P4?

In my opinion the Celeron have been lower performing processors and lower cost. HERE is and article describing the differences between the Celeron and P4

upgrade ur os, go to bios and reset all, run registry cleaner reg in out to fix errors

Go to your motherboard website and check it's CPU specificaions

In short, yes you can upgrade to a P4 cpu but from the compatibility chart at Intel support, it looks like the upper limit for this older board is the P4 2.6GHz.

Note: Even at that, running the P4 2.6 would require a BIOS upgrade to P12 or greater.

Probably nothing. If your system works, I would not concern myself greatly with this small detail. The system indicates a 3.4 GHz cpu installed. Your software may misidentify some of the features of your Prescott.

Well, my first suggestion would be to just get a new board. The reason I say that is it's not going to be much better regardless of upgrades you do. It hold the maxiimum of 2 gb for ram, and a P4 Intel CPU up to 3.2 Ghz CPU. Which is like an upgrade that will cost you maybe (if you find the parts) $50.00. You can buy a bundled motherboard with CPU from $50.00 and up. But, if you want to upgrade it, you can check HERE and find what is compatible with that board. At least you know what will fit.

Well I can say its a socket 478 P4 and you can probably only upgrade to about a 2.4Ghz P4 , probably not much of an upgrade, better to build or buy a new PC for around $500-$600

Franky_J knows nothing you could go for a P4 2.8 cpu which would work much better than the Celeron in fack any P4 over 2.0 would out perform the celeron if you want speed get rid of the Celeron and get a P4 it should take up to an 3.2 P4 chip.

Franky if you dont understand cpu's then you shouldn't really be answering this question in the cpu world a 2.8 ghz cpu is not always a 2.8ghz cpu for instance this one has half the cash of a P4 cpu meaning it can only do half the work at the same time so in P4 terms this is only a 1.8 P4 equivilent so a 2.8 P4 will be a big improvement.

According to the product website your board supports all intel socket 478 cpu's. Maybe you bought a faulty cpu ?

To upgrade the cpu, you will still need to use the same type of cpu. A socket 478 motherboard will not work with a socket 775 processor. The pin configuration is different.
