Hello, I have a Sharp LC-26DV24U flat panel TV which is a little over 2 years old. The other day we were watching it when suddenly the screen turned fuzzy white with the sound buzzing and perioically the picture and all would slightly come back for a second or two and then fail again????? Tried tapping the set to see if there were any "loose connections" but it didn"t help. Power supply / main board/ other ?

Go to the Tuner setup screen and select cable instead of air. Then put the TV on Channel 3 and connect the cable box to the antenna connector on the TV.
The grey screen is caused by failed transistor for the switched 12vdc for the T-CON board, same as my pictures here (my does not have the DVD), but it can also be the main 12vdc itself that is bad, you will have to do some probing. Since the screen is grey, you will not be able to tell if the set really function or not. http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Sharp%20LC-26SB24U/
Sounds like the Main mother board is the problem. When the processor chip overheats, the programming information passing through the chip slows down. Most cases, replacing the main mother board will fix the problem.
Ckocanda, check to see if your picture is a little darker on one side than the other. Typical Sharp problem is the inverters. Tell that to your service guy when you take it in for repair.
