NWZ-B103F MP3: connected to USB port on pc( vista) and tried on laptop( xp)

Connected MP3 to both machines: nothing doing!
No startup or wizard.
system reports that item has malfunctioned or is not recognised.
have no problems with other USB connective products ie: disgo memory pen drive
have now taken unit back to shop where purchased.
Is it my system or Sony's problem?

I first found that when I plugged my player into my computer it registered it as a MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) device and in turn never showed up as a storage device on my computer. I fixed this by going into my Control Panel -> System Icon -> Hardware Tab -> Device Manager button.

Clicking on the "System Devices" tab should have "Walkman" or MTP device. Right click on it and go to properties, now before doing anything it should say "Location -- ------ Location 0 (Walkman)" if not try unplugging the walkman and see if the MTP device you're looking at is removed from the list, just to make sure it's the right device we're looking for.

If you've confirmed it's the Walkman, click on the "Driver tab" and click on "Update Driver...". Then click on the "Install from a list or a specific location (Advanced)" option and click "Next". Now select the "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install." and click next. It should now bring up 2 driver choices, one being "MTP Device" and the other "USB Mass Storage Device". Select the USB option and select next, it will then install your walkman as a USB storage device and after that's done. It should be a matter of unplugging and plugging the Walkman back in and it should show up on your storage options in "My Computer"

I had my sony walkman nwd-b103f. when i connect it to the pc it say's usb device not recognized. plz help?

Please try these steps:
You don't need any driver software, if your pc has windows xp sp2 or later and Windows Media Player 11.
1. Connect the player to the computer.
2. From the computer, select start - Control Panel - Performance and Maintenance - System. "System Properties" is displayed.
3. Select Hardware tab, and open Device manager.
4. Open Universal Serial Bus controllers, and select USB Mass Storage Device or WALKMAN NWZ-XXXXX.
5. Select Action - Update Driver ... from the menu bar. "Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard" is displayed.
6. A dialog on Windows Update connection will be displayed. Select No, not this time., followed by Next.
7. Select Install from a list or specific location [Advanced], followed by Next for the hardware install method.
8. Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install., followed by Next for the search and install option.
9. Check Show compatible hardware, and then select MTP Device* in the model list, followed by Next. The device driver is installed.
10. "Completing the Hardware Update Wizard" message is displayed, and confirm "MTP Device" message. Click Finish.

Good luck!

Thanks.

Its actually a NWD-B103F when i try to copy files

connect to system and when detected as a removable disk, format it.... if this doesnt work, look for the format option in the player itself under settings..that should definitely work.

Sony Walkman NWZ-A826 will not conect to laptop via usb cable

I experienced exactly the same problem on my laptop (Vista Home Premium) after upgrading to NIS 2009.

From Control Panel, I went to Device Manager. Under Portable Devices there was a yellow exclamation mark aginst my walkman (Micosoft Code 19 error). I read around a bit before deciding to click Uninstall. Once that was complete, I clicked on Scan for hardware changes, and hey presto my walkman was recognised again.

This is almost certainly connected with NIS 2009 installation as my walkman was recognised by another laptop (XP) which is NIS 2009-free.

Heey i m using sony walkman mp3 player NWZ B135F m not able transfer song to player thro pc rather not showing icon in ma pc.. plz any can tell me hw to do that..!!!

Try resetting the settings on the player, the firmware may have written incorrectly. Also, check if you have a Lib-USB filter program, as it may be blocking your mp3 player. Either uninstall it or look up how to install your device when the filter is active

I followed the steps and finally I reached to a step where it shows “MTP device Problem......” I tried many times with different USB ports, but the same problem happened.

Fully frustrated, I finally did what the whole world does, GOOGLE my problem. Google showed me a lot of posts but nothing could solve my problem. Microsoft was providing the MTP driver, but only after a lot of authentication and procedure, which I was not going to follow….

After repeatedly experimenting by inserting my MP3 player, I got the solution!! It is as follows:

1) Insert your music player in the USB port. You will get a Hardware Installation wizard by XP.
2) Select, “No, Not this time” and click next.

3) Select “Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)”.

4) Select “Don’t search. I will search the driver to install”.

5) Select “USB Mass Storage Device” and then click "Next"

7) Wow!! Now you are done!!!

Enjoy and listen to your favorite music!!
