You need to reinstall the software. The bes way is to disconnect the printer, then use scrubber.exe (you can find it on the driver cd) to clean the system from old and failed installation, and after that install the printer according to user manual (software first).

Scanner error in HP officejet Pro L7590

These instructions will fix the majority of scanner problems and networking problems using ethernet:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01849855&lc=en&dlc=ro&cc=ro&product=3643612&rule=4124&lang=ro

The key is to assign a static ip address for the printer. The install problems of trying to get the HP printer to be found will go away. You can then use the scanner. Also...it is crucial that when connecting other laptop's and PC's on the same network that you use the hp printer'rs host name to find the printer on the network. I find that the IP address can and usually fails to find the hp on the network. Mostly likely you cannot search the network for a hp printer until you go the route of find the hp network printer with the host name of the printer. You will also need your install disk when installing on other networl laptop's and PC's since windows xp and Vista machines don't have the drivers in the list. You will need to point the add printer gui driver to the disk and look for autorun.inf
file. After selecting that file...you can then see your drivers.

I am unable to scan a document to save and them pull it up to a word processing program in order to edit it. I am using hp, 1200 series, version 2.10. Is there a version that would allow me to do...

If you want to edit a scan in a word processor, you'll need another program called OCR: optical character recognition. This program reads the scanned bitmap, tiff or jpeg, and converts it to text.

Whether or not an OCR program was bundled with your scanner or not is another story, and typically expects that you will use your existing scanner software to save an image to disk somewhere, in a format that OCR will understand.

You may wish to clarify whether the problem is the scanner (unable to scan), the driver that came with it (unable to save), or the OCR software (unable to export to word for editing).

Have you checked the cord from the scanner lid to the scanner base. if that doesn't work I would try uninstalling the scanner and then reinstalling it. It sounds like a problem with the twain driver for the scanner.

Connection issue between XP Pro and HP C6180 all-in-one

Hi Lynn,

Unfortunately, HP.com doesn't have a very satisfying online solution to your problem. Still, there are a few things you can try.

The first is a general diagnostic check of your scanner. HP provides a doc that takes you through some steps, many of which you probably already tried, to see if it's a simple fix:

An error occurred while communicating with scanning device

The next document is a set of diagnostic steps to address errors trying to scan to a PDF:

An error occurred while trying to scan to a PDF

I don't know if the current situation was created by a fault in the device or some recent change in your configuration settings. I do know you can use the HP Director software installed on your computer to set the scan destination settings:

Settting "Scan To" Destination using HP Director

Those were the most relevant solutions I could find for you. I hope some of this information is helpful. Good luck.

Won't scan or copy

Solution
These errors are usually caused by a failed scan, a bad installation, communication problems or software conflicts. Follow the steps below until the problem is corrected.
Step one: Restart the computer
Close all programs and restart the computer. A required task might have stopped running or the system resources might have decreased due to tasks left running. Restarting the computer will refresh all Windows tasks as well as increase the available system resources.
Step two: Check for the correct entries in the Device Manager
Verify that the unit was installed on a DOT4 virtual port in the Device Manager.
  1. Right-click My Computer , and then click Properties .
  2. Click the Device Manager tab. (In Windows 2000 and XP, click the Hardware tab , and then click Device Manager .)
Check the list of installed devices for references to DOT4. If there are no DOT4 references, the software has not installed correctly.
If any of these entries are missing, the software did not install properly. Review the information in the HP document Troubleshooting Installation Issues for USB-Connected HP All-in-One Products in Microsoft(R) Windows (bpu01858) for installation assistance.
Step three: Check for communication problems between the all-in-one and the computer
Communication might have failed between the all-in-one and the computer. Review the information in the HP document USB Connected HP All-in-One's Software Reports a Disconnected or an Error Status (bpu01859) to check for communications problems between the HP all-in-one and the computer.
Step four: Check the computer to see if it is infected with a computer virus
If the all-in-one prints but will not scan correctly and does not show any symptoms of communications problems, the computer might be infected with a virus. Some viruses try to disable virus scanning software and in doing so disable scanning from the all-in-one. The following are symptoms a virus problem:
  • The scanning software works after installing the all-in-one software until the first time the computer is restarted.
  • In the Device Manager, opening the Properties of the Imaging Device entry will reveal a status of "code 19" or "code 28".
  • A Scanner Cannot be initialized error occurs. While this error may other reasons, a virus will cause this error.
When the all-in-one is turned on and connected, follow the steps below to see if this is the problem:
  1. Right-click My Computer (click Start first in Windows XP) and then click Properties .
  2. Open the Device Manager:
    • Windows 98 and Me: Select the Device Manager tab.
    • Windows 2000 and XP: Select the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager .
  3. Locate the Imaging Device entry and click the plus (+) beside it. It may have an exclamation mark beside it.
  4. Right-click the all-in-one entry under Imaging Devices, and then click Properties .
  5. A Properties screen will open. Look at the Device status section.
Hope it may helps;.

Communication problem with a MP210 Canon Pixma

Yes! No WIA, no scanning! It means Windows Image Aquisition is not turned on... Not only will the scanner not work but also other Imaging devices like cameras. The best way to find out will be to try and scan from Microsoft Paint. Go to Start, all programs, accessories then look for paint. When paint opens, click file then from scanners or cameras. Try to scan, if it scans then WIA is ok.
It means is the scanner software that was not installed correctly so uninstall reinstall just the scanner software! If Paint does not scan, then its your computer's Operating system (winxp) at fault. Make sure WIA is started, or better try to restart that service (in control panel, administrative tools, services, look for Windows Image Aquisition, restart the service).

Getting error when trying to fax or scan

The L7580 is not meant to be set up as a scanning device on a network. This unit can only function properly as a USB connected device to have all the features work. Also, for the software to install with out problems, all other All in One software fro previous HP printers need to be removed. Once we did that and did clean install using USB only then did it work.
