I have an Hp Pavillion dv6700 laptop with windows vista. i tried to connect my DELL A920 inkjet printer by installing the driver it came with the printer. all i get is "COMMUNICATION NOT AVAILABLE" even though the cables are correctly connected.
Please provide me with useful information to solve this problem coz as a graphic designer the printer is one of the important hardwares in my job especially when its a new printer and i am not ready to buy another one.
For Assistance Please check the following:
1- Is it related with the vista?
2- Could it be a defective USB Cable?
3- How can i get a Driver compatible with vista?
W86TY2829VB2 is the product serial number of the Norton Internet Security 2008 software. when i bought my laptop it came fully programmed even the anti-virus software was functional and fully updated. after 60 days a registration box pop-up stating that i must get the PRODUCT KEY i called the vendor he said that its not available so please:
1- can you provide me with the "Product Key"
2- can you tell me how and where can i get a free "Product Key"
I really appreciate your help.
Yes, you will need an updated driver for Windows Vista.
Click HERE to got to Dell for the updated driver for your printer.
It could be related to Vista. Check Dells website to see if they have a Vista driver for it.
If you have another USB Cable you can try swapping it.
If you have a spare USB Port, you can try swapping that as well.
I went it did some snooping on Dell's website about this printer. There are blogs everywhere about control panels locking up, poor support, and problems running this printer running this printer with Vista.
Here is a what there support says to do about the problem:

Since your'e doing this for business use this is something you might want to keep with Dell right now and that is that Dell is trying to get the company back into just supporting computers and manufacturing computers. Part of the problem has been with Dell is they have been getting their hands into everything and it's caused a lot of problems and the shareholders are getting on their case about it. They can't even make their own printer supplies as it is. They farm it out to someone else unlike HP.
Im in this business professionally and talk on the street is that Dell is pulling the plug slowly on printers, TVs, PDAs, MP3 players, and any other electronics that aren't computer related and will be strictly carrying computers within the next two years.
You should have someone look at it and see if there is trouble going on with the main board.
