No power to my rca tv model number F27733SB. the slot for the power cord that goes from the tv to the wall is missing a 3rd prong on the "male" side that is actually in the Tv. The unversal calbe has a female end that goes into the TV - 3 prong slot - and there are only 2 prongs. Does that affect the power going on? because the tv came from my work, Direct TV and they swore it worked when they tried it. I think someone yanked out the power cord one of the male prongs might have ripped out with it. My main question is "do we need all 3 prongs coming out of the power supply slot in the back of the TV for it to work. Or - what else could be the problem. I got this at a silent auction for charity and my work said they tested them all before selling them to us. Please help.

Hello
Only a two prong wire is needed for any TV to switch on. A three prongs are used for electrical equipments like Mixie, Grider and son, to get onw of the prngs to earth point to avoid accidents due to electric shock. Even though, your tv is provided a three prong wire for its power supply, only two of them are used inside the tv to work on. One amoung them are set free inside the TV. You kust try by replaceing the present wire by a new one. If the problem perists, inform me through Fixya, with as much as details you can send. OK.

How to wire a plug

In USA, Either the male or female plug connector would be wired the same. Black is hot wire and would connect to the BRASS colored round head screw ( Smallest flat prong or slot ). White is the neutral wire and would connect to the SILVER colored round head screw ( Largest flat prong or slot ). Green is the ground wire and would connect to the GREEN screw ( ONLY HEX shaped screw ). 1) FOR YOUR LIFE SAFETY, ALWAYS USE 3-WIIRE PLUGS WHEN REPAIRING 3-WIRE EXTENSION CORDS! 2) Check the male plug connector. It should have two flat and one rounded prong. The rounded prong is the ground wire connection. If the ground prong is missing, replace the plug. 3) Inspect the outer cover for damage. 4) Do not use cords with damaged outer covers. Taping over the damage is not an adequate repair, for safety, replace the cord.

I have a whirlpool eltri dryer model #Lhe5700w0 it as a 4 prong recptacle and my otlet hasonly three slots

you have two options you can either replace the outlet on the wall to a 4 prong plug which will require turning power off and a little more description on how to change ... you have 2 hot legs usually black and red sometimes they will use black and the white and then connect the ground to the ground terminal... you would install the 4 prong outlet the same way except you would conect the ground to the center port and then ground the receptacle itself...
the easiest thing to do is go to a local hardware store and buy a three prong cord and in the rear of your dryer is a access panel to replace the cord... the 2 outer screws are your hot legs if you hold the cord flat you will see it is made where you can tell which wire is what, doesnt matter which is which as long as the 2 outer one are the two outer ones on the cord and the center wire goes to the center screw and then all you have to do is plug it in and start drying clothes.... good luck to you

My dryer's power cord has 4 prongs, my wall socket has 3 holes, can I change the power cord, or is there an adapter to change from 4 to 3 pronges.

Un screw the 2 hex screws from the back of the dryer where the cord goes in.

There will be 3 screws that connect the cord to the dryer, loosen or remove them to remove the 4 prong cord.

A hardware store will carry the 3 prong cord you need, tell them it is for a dryer.

Re-connect the 3 prong cord to the dryer.

Plug in and test after you have installed the new cord.

Got a used dryer had a 4 prong my house is 3 prong, changed the 4 prong to 3 prong plugged in and wont turn on, what do i do?

There is a difference between how a 3 prong and a 4 prong power cord is installed. Please read the following link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575913-installing_a_220_vac_appliance_cord

If you have the power cord installed correctly and still do not have power, please check for 220-240 VAC at the wall receptacle. If you require additional assistance, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER and let me know. I hope this helps you.
