Sunbeam Mixmaster Heritage series

Mixer won't tilt back to remove beaters and bowls. Read that if you insert a small screwdriver in the neck slot at the base of the motor and push up while depressing the release buton on the side, the motor should release. Have tried this several times to no avail. Any suggestions. Earlene Harvey

I thought the bowl would just release from the turning base on the mixer but can not seem to get it to release so I can remove it and pour ingredients into baking pan.

I hope this helps. I found on mine that the rear screw on the "neck" had become slighty loosecousing the release to not fully disingage. I had to remove the dome shaped cap in the middle of the speed control knob, pops off fairly easy, to gain access to the nut to tighten it. Hard part was trying to hold the screw head still while I used a small screw driver and small hammer to tap the nut tight, very limited space between the "neck" and motor body.

Beaters won't turn bowl still does turn

I just took mine apart for this same issue. What i found was the plastic beater drive gears have been stripped by the motor worm gear. I am currently looking for these parts to replace them.

Middle better comes loose

Try placing some "braces" rubber bands around the shafts of the beaters. This should tighten the hold of the shaft with the mixer and keep them more straight.

I can't get the tilt release to release to raise the mixer . I have a batch of cookie dough in the bowl and I am unable to raise the mixer

Try running the mixer for a few seconds to clear anything out from under the beaters, like a chocolate chip. You can also try pushing down on the beater end of the mixer, press the button and lift.

Sunbeam Heritage Mixmaster Won't Tilt back

Hi

Most of them have a button to push that releases the mixer head to tip back. Sometimes the buttons stick and will not release. That picture looks like you are using the Heritage model.

You have to remove two parts in order to get access to the piece that was causing the problem:

1) The "torpedo" shaped knob that sticks out from the mixer speed dial;
2) The speed dial itself

Both of these pieces clip-in, and can be removed with a screwdriver by pressing in on one of the hooks that hold them in place.

After these two pieces are removed look for a small washer right below the motor (it is sitting on top of the upper portion of a screw) -- in my case this washer had come loose; tighten it with a 1/4 size wrench (you can also tighten it by hand to release the tilt, it will probably become loose in the future if you don't tighten it further, but if you don't have the necessary tools this will at least allow you to get your tilt unlocked).

On another note, after tightening this washer you may also notice that the tilt release had become easier to use -- previously you may have found that you have to press the tilt release button very hard to get the tilt to unlock.

Please do accept the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Regarding the Sunbeam Mixmaster (model 2346): How do I remove the front cover of the mixer so that I may reallign or replace the beater gears?

Pry the beater release button out with a screwdriver. There are two screws underneath it and one under the motor housing between the the beater holes. This will allow you to remove the chrome front cover, but not the motor and drive assembly. Getting to the part that contains the gears requires complete disassembly of the mixer. It is not designed for service, and requires patience and a variety of tools to disassemble.

It has a metal worm gear and plastic drive gears. If the beaters are out of alignment, then one or both of the plastic gears are stripped and the mixer is junk. Repair plus shipping costs equals the price of a new mixer. This is the weak point of these mixers and a fundamental flaw in an otherwise robust and sturdy design. It is definitly not the same mixer *********** bought 30 years ago.

The tilt button is not working

Okay, we just figured this out ourselves.
There is a little hole on the neck of the mixer, where the mixer motor meets the neck. While pushing the tilt release button, stick a small screwdriver into the hole (it will not go far) and pry the latch upward. While holding the latch up and the tilt button, have someone pull up on the motor while holding down the base. It might take a little muscle, but after that, the motor will be able to tilt back and forth like it did before it got stuck. If you are the one holding the tilt button and latch, please wach your finger so they don't get pinched when the motor swings up.
