Most likely the power supply board needs to be replaced. The fact that both the sound and picture don't work really points to that board.
If you don't know what you're doing, DON'T OPEN THE TV UP TO FIX IT, THERE ARE HAZARDOUS VOLTAGES ON THE POWER SUPPLY BOARD, EVEN WEEKS AFTER THE TV IS UNPLUGGED!
If you don't know how to do it yourself, find some local Electronic repair shops, get quotes, try to find reviews on the shops.

Press the "WIDE" button on the TV remote a few times to change the TV wide mode settings until you get it to "FULL". If that does not fix it, look on your Cable box remote for an "Aspect" or "Format" button and press it a few times. I hope this helps.
this may sound strange , but htis is a service not on the sony site place a piece of scotch tape over the sensor on your TV and this should do the trick
Carxy i saod the same thing but it works
change the input to your cable box or coaxial input. check your remote to see if there is an input or source button, and press it. you might have to press it a few times to cycle through all of your inputs.
Click on the display button (upper left corner) as a short term fix - it will turn it off immediately - not sure of how to permanently solve this though.
