What disk are you using to install Panther? If you are using another Mac's restore disk, you will not be allowed to install.

Can't eject Install CD Mac OSX Panther

Hi GInette, sorry to hear you are having problems,
here is how you eject a disk that is stuck in the optical drive of a Mac.
    Shut down the Mac.
    press the power on button
VERY QUICKLY, press the mouse button, the trackpad button and hold it down firmly until the disk ejects.
This is a built-in hardware command independent of your system and always works when doe right, unless the optical drive is no longer recognized by the Mac or if something is inhibiting it's ejection.
    Good luck

    Mac wont turn on

G5 will not boot off of OS9. Since you are more of a pc guy, think of it like this, you buy a used newer pc meant to run Vista, and you are trying to load Windows 98 on there. You can run any of the OSX flavors on there...
Depending on your Model (scroll to bottom) of G5 you need to be running...
    2003 -> at least 10.2 Jaguar 2004 -> at least 10.3 Panther 2005 -> at least 10.4 Tiger
10.5 Leopard is Apple's newest operating system and it can be run on any of these models. You need to buy a retail copy (has drivers for every model) unless you buy exactly the right system disk for that specific model.
OS9 can be installed and run inside of OSX using something called Classic mode. This would be like running a virtual XP Pro inside of Vista.

    Canon N650U and Mac OSX

Canon only has this scanner driver in OS9 and it will run in classic mode if you are using OSX. This $40 software will work with your scanner in OSX, but for $40 you can purchase an OSX native scanner too.

    E mac computer

Is it a file or Folder on the screen?
Are you booting in OS9 or OSX?

Simple answer without knowing the answer to the above questions could be the hard drive is bad. Try rebooting with the install cd's that came with the machine. If you see a disk image it is good if not it is bad. If in Os9 it is a corrupted system folder and that could mean many issues have occurred.
