ASK HELP hi, my dvd rom doesn't read dvd's, how and what to download from the internet that I may install install to my PC, so that it will read dvd's. My PC's OS is windows vista.....

By installation Disk do you mean the CD/DVD-ROM? If yes

Check to see if the drive's LED flashes when the system is trying to boot. If it doesn't, open the system and make sure all the cables to the CD/DVD- ROM is properly connected and to the right slots. If the cables are properly connect and the CD/DVD- ROM is still not working replace the CD/DVD-ROM.

However, if its that the system could not install a particular program, make sure the installation files are complete and try again. If its a downloaded program, verify the completeness of the file downloaded and try reinstalling the program.

Check the Hardware Device Manager and copy the model names for both drives. Then do an Internet Search for each one. Both drives might ROM drives, not burners.
You do need the some burning application software installed to burn disks. try to install Nero BurnLite version 10

try other known good windows installer. if it boot, then the problem is in xp installer, if it not. try other external cd-rom drive. also be sure the disc rom drive are dvd rom drive because a cd rom drive cannot read dvd disc but a dvd rom drive can read cd rom disc installer

try to download some path file from the net for the motherboard then this may solve the dvd problem or you may have to change dvd drive

You can do the following steps:
1. Check the Device Manager
2. Click the DVD rom + sign
3. Right Click on the name of the DVD rom
4. Select "Properties"
5. Select the DVD Region Tab
6. Make sure the Current Region is set to your location

Do you have a working DVD DRive? if not you'll need it to install the software.

That is a "Hardware" item it's not "Software".
so purchase a dvd-rom from a local computer shop they should also offer to fit it for you and supply some software for you too.

Hardware = Keyboard, Mouse, Rom Drives, Ect....
Software = XP/Vista, Internet Explorer, Solitair, Ect....

try finding out the name of Ur DVD rom.. it will be available in the DEVICE MANAGER.. to access device manager just type DEVMGMT.MSC in RUN option... once u have located the name of the DVD drive .. just go to the DVD drive vendors site and download the firmware of the dvd drive and instal it and restart ur system it will work fine.. while installing the firmware the LED on the drive blinks...

1st step; Acquire/buy a cd/dvd rom drive cleaning tool kit from your local pc store.
2nd step; Install a dvd coder/decoder software, try Power DVD player software it has a trial version
3rd step; After installing the DVD coder/decoder from Power DVD player try playing a dvd movie rom disc it should work/play... hope these tips help ;-)
