Tries unplug the tv and the cable box about an hour and replug both.See if the tv reset it self and the cable box reboot it software.Not,than the Tuner board is dead,that the board the coalax signal cable plug into it to get the broscasting signal.
Absolutly A blue ray is not really tv specific but if you want HD and feel the sound and video then sure a bigger better tv would do. But you can hook a blue ray up to any tv basically remeber the ps3? Same idea.

If there is no digital tuner built into the tv or unless you subscribe to Cable TV or Satellite service you will still need a converter to view tv with rabbit ears (air broadcast).
Most new televisions High Definition televisions in particular may not have the regular cable hook up. They generally have an HDMI connection that you connect with an HDMI cable.
To me it is similar to a computers usb connection.
If the antenna connector is missing it probably has been broken off. I suggest that you use a HDTV cable box and connect with component connectors. Green, Blue, Red video + red & white audio.
If you are on off the air antenna, the cable box can be gotten from eBay.
If you have satellite, hook up either video or HDTV connections.
