My vacuum caught on fire when I tried replacing the belt and when I tried to unclog it. Is this common for other people, or am I just very lucky?

Today sadly to say it is common for most vacuums. The quality is so poor that the roller brushes don't last long and can burn up belts as fast as you can replace them. Next time you want to buy a vacuum, turn it up side down and see what the roller brush is made of. If is is steel then buy it, if it is wooden or plastic forget it.

Eureka boss power plus

I had this same problem. The brush roll wouldn't spin, smoke came out, and it smelled like burning rubber. I changed the belt thinking that would fix the problem but it didn't, so I took the belt back off and checked the motor shaft in the back and found a whole bunch of hair wrapped around the shaft. Once I cut out the hair with some scissors and replaced the belt, everything worked like normal. I hope this helps.

THE BOSS SUPERLITE THE BRUSHES WON'T TURN

Check two things with this model: if the top slider button has been activated it will turn the brush roll on. If not then you'll have to remove the sole plate and check the sides of the beater bar - sometimes this will get jammed and refuse to turn because clogging of dust or tangled hair/carpet thread takes up the thread wheels at the sides. Sadly this model has a permanent toothed drive belt that can't really be replaced by the owner. However check the slider control on the top of the main body / handle first before doing anything - as you know it has a two option slider - switching on without the brush roll function and switching on with the brush roll activated.

Eureka Wide Track Superlite vacuum roller brush motor

Don't know if you can find something that will work, Eureka doesn't make these motors available thru them. Try some local shops or a place that sells small motors.

I changed the belt on a Eureka Whirlwind superlite, all was well but I can't seem to find where this white piece of plastic approx.2" and less than 1/2" wide and there is a copper like V shaped clip, I was hoping maybe you had a diagram or something showing where these go.
Much Appreciated

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
I would suggest contacting your local vac dealer in your area to she id they have a schematic of the Eureka Whirlwind Superlite vacuum, and include the model number so that it would be easier to find the vacuum you are speaking of or you also can check on line, some factory manufacturer have some type of schematics that you can download using the name and model # of the vacuum, but this is not a guarantee, So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

BOSS 5851 Wide Track, 12 Amp

The top comes off to get to the belt and brush roll. Did you check the brush roll to make sure that the ends turn freely, or is one not turning, the belt is a lon life "U" part #61120A. The brush roll is what drives the vacuum, but if brush roll or belt is bad, then it won't drive it.
