I have a Pioneer DV 585A DVD player that happily plays DVDs and the background sounds seems to be fine, but on some of the DVDs you can hear the voices of the characters speaking and then on another you can't hear them yet you can still hear the background music. I even had just had a hired DVD where you hear all the voices on the trailer movies, but as soon as it goes to the film the voices are as if they are mute, help help help please

Hi edwardm1,

If you are only hearing part of the audio from your DVD player, I would suggest you check your audio settings before seeking repairs.

Audio can be encoded to a DVD in several ways. If the audio on the disc is different than the settings on your DVD player, you may not hear all of the audio layers. For example, if your DVD is encoded in 5.1 Surround Sound, but your DVD player is set only to play basic Stereo, you may only hear portions of the audio.

Try accessing the menu on your DVD player, and look for the audio settings. If there is a higher setting available than is currently selected, try a higher audio setting. A higher setting should also be compatible with lower types of audio encoding.

If this does not improve your audio, or if you need help navigating your product menus, I would recommend giving Pioneer's toll-free support line a call at (800) 421-1404.

Thank you,
Jason,

WILL MY DVD PLAY AREA 1 AND AREAV4 DVD'S?

Hi camonk2004,

It's interesting that your DVD player was purchased in Russia but plays Region 1 DVDs. Region 1 is North America. Does your Player also play Russian DVDs (region 5)? If so, then it has probably been modified to play DVDs from multiple regions.

Check the back side of the DVD player - the rear panel should have a Region number on it. If the region number is 1, then try playing a Region 5 DVD. If it reads the DVD, then the modification that was done in Russia will probably allow it to read any DVD. IF the Region 5 DVD won't play (or if it is ejected automatically), then your player's region control os still intact, and it will only play DVDs from the same region as the one listed on the rear panel of the player (or DVDs marked "ALL").

I hope this helps - please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Kind Regards,
H2H

Unlocking DVD - Pioneer DV400 k

Hi Jetix,

If the DVD player is capable of playing other regions, you should be able to change the region setting through the menu section. If there isn't an option to change the region settings in the menu, then your DVD player is not able to play other DVDs from other regions.

Sincerely,

Agent Xiong

No sound playing DVDs

Is it connected to 5.1 amp??.The first thing to try is to go to set up menu and change the audio o/p to pcm track.See if this works. What has more than likely happened is unit is set to dolby digital and should be on pcm track instead. If this doesnt work more than likely fault in unit but have seen very few audio problems with dvds.
