You have to make sure that both the data cable and the power cable are connected to USB 2.0 ports. the power one is marked with a lightening bolt. xp/vista/windows 7 has the drivers in thier data base. so if plugged in correctly then will auto detect.

Hello Quincy964,
Ensure first that the computer where your Omega 500GB eGo Helium Portable plug-in, is an virus free PC. Your problem is mainly cause by an virus. You can unhidden it by 3 different methods;

Method 1:

Just plug your Iomega 500GB eGo Helium Portable into an Linux Operating System, and automatically you can see or browse all the files in your hard drive.

Method 3:
By using Hiren's Boot CD
Just download and Hirens Boot CD (download here)
Download the file in the link, then after an successful donwload extract the files in the zip folder then burn it in Nero DVD Burner (Choose in the Nero DVD burner >burn images files) then after burning it. Restart your computer (makes sure that the Hirens Boot CD is inserted in your Optical Drive) boot it up in your Optical Drive ( F12 or F11 depending on the motherboard). I need a manuel or tutorial for my new eGo 500GB portable Hard Drive. Where do I go to find it on line or other places? For my iMAC.

Try this: http://download.iomega.com/manuals/prthd/portable-hd-en.zip
If you find that this manual is for a slightly different version, then go here: https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14432#egoprt and choose the correct version.

EGo portable hard drive works with desktop with one internal hard drive installed, however if desktop has two hard drives eGo will not work

right click on my computer and choose manage.
computer management will appear.
go down to disk management
if you see your ego drive listed there
right click on it and choose change drive letter and paths
choose a drive letter that isn't in use like F or G.
you should now be able to browse or view the ego drive in my computer. or by going to run and type the drive letter you choose.

Iomega eGo 1TB USB 3.0 Portable portable harddisk 500GB. while connected to PC show an error on desktop "insufficient power on USB hub port" . pls suggest

Few different things are possibilities.
1. Are you connecting the device via USB 3.0 to the USB 3.0 adapter on the computer? 2. Try switching out your USB 3.0 cable for a different one. 3. If you are using the USB 2.0 instead. Make sure you are using the USB Y cable for the device and not just a standard USB 2.0 straight cable. Using the USB Y cable. Plug the cable into the device first, then make sure to plug both USB's into the computer starting with the short side USB then the longer side USB second. Also try using the USB's on the back side of the computer as they will supply more power than the USB's on the front of the computer.

I bought a iomega 500gb because apple said it would be a good idea. I plug it into my computer but I am not sure what to do next. The icon for it shows up, but what next? There are no directions for it.

The drive is a portable storage device. You can put your pictures, music, documents, videos...etc... on the drive and take them with you were ever you want to go and access them from a different computer.

I have the eGo helium portable hard drive (compact edition, usb 2.0 500gb) i'm using it on my HP laptop...how do i get it to just backup my itunes music, videos and tv shows---do you not just drag it and...

you can cut and paste or just copy the media to the external hard drive. and copy it back if the data is ever lost from your computer, also you can have iTunes use the external hard drive to get media from. So you can free up valuable space on your pc's hard drive by just cut and pasting the iTunes folder to it.

My desktop is vista if i v.clone to my 500GB eGo

Whether you use a clone program like Acronis, or use windows backup depending on which version you have( pro, ultimate) it just puts a folder on the drive that is a backup, so yes, you should be able to use this hard drive anywhere and use it on a different system.

I have done the same thing and have no problems. Western Digital.

It will not let you try and backup another computer with this OS, just so you know. You can't install the backup to another computer and have a nice operating system with all the hotfixes and updates and install to a different one. It will not work.
