I purchased a Toshiba 50 hp66 in 2/07 and its been wonderful until 2 weeks ago. Now the picture has a series of "waves"going across the screen.. What could be causing this??
Thanks for the simple observation to try. We put in a DVD and guess what "no Waves" !!.. Called the Satelite Company, and when they came out we had a satelite issue not a TV issue.... Thanks again, and if I ever have any more issues, I know where to go and ask the questionThanks for the simple observation to try. We put in a DVD and guess what "no Waves" !!.. Please describe the 'waves' and what you are watching when it happens, is it on everything? e.g. normal TV and when watching a DVD? Are the Waves a grey close pattern going diagonally across the screen for some other sort of pattern?

Hi, it sounds like the lamp is on its way out. Depending on the size of the television, it may not be cost-effective to try to have it repaired. If it's under warranty, then contact either the manufacturer or the place where you purchased the TV, and find out what your recourse is. If it's out of warranty, however, there is a good chance that fixing it will cost 60% or what it would cost to purchase a new one.
Check the fuses on the ysus & zsus boards. Are any fuses on boards open . Disconect power cabels to ysus board first {board on left} . put tv on . if the light is green the ysus board must be replaced.
Sounds like a system failure - one of the controller boards may have gone bad. If the unit is still under warranty, contact Toshiba for warranty service. Otherwise you will need to contact one of the authorized service centers or your local TV repair guy to arrange for repair.
There's a possibility of the screen not getting enough voltage from the power supply so u should get tha voltage to the lcd cheked .votage has to be enough to run sound and video
most units are made by someone else. your unit probably has LG parts. get the unit looked at by a Toshiba authorized servicer. they may be able to repair it at component level. the $900 you stated sounds at least $200 too high for board level repair.
We did in fact. We called bak toshiba and explained that it was a few days out of warrenty and that we did some research on the matter and found that the part toshiba used was a LG part, and that LG had issued a extended warrenty on the part of their product. The people at toshiba service asked if we had been told the first time that they were willing to cover some part of the issue due to the short time past the warrenty and acted surprised that we had been given no inclination that they would still cover anything after the warenty period. They eneded up covering the cost of the replacement screen, at a on paper cost of 3k (the tv cost 1600) we had to cover labor at $250. Everything went great and the TV is back on the wall. Hopefully it last untill the OLEDs are 50" and equal in cost.
I think that the pop you heard was an electrolytic capacitor blowing its top on the picture frame board. If you are able to check this for yourself by looking on the board for the one/s with a bulging top or are a brownish/black colour like something has caught fire. And also in this situation smell can be of great help as it will smell burnt out but PLEASE before putting your nose or anything else in the tv take all necessary precautions against electric shock and discharge any electrolytic capacitors in the vicinity. If you are not able to do this yourself find a competant technician. Hope this helps.
