I have a brand new 'built-in' Napoleon gas grill. I can see the pilot light come on and the burner will light briefly and but won't stay lit. I adjusted the shutter valves and had to close them all the way before 1 burner would stay lit. However, the flame was weak and it too eventually went out. Could it be that too much air is involved? I had a contractor build a BBQ island and drop in the grill. He left a gap underneath so I'm wondering if too much air underneath the grill is causing a problem.

SOURCE: ignition button does not work,

The push button peizo ignitor may simply have lost it's ground. Trace the wiring fro the push button igniter to peizo spark ignitor(s) at the burner(s). The wire simply slides onto a needle like pin, on the bottom of the peizo. Gingerly, pull the wire off and then slide it back on. This should reestablish the ground. Also check the spark ignitors to make sure they're not covered with grease. If they are, clean them with a cotton ball soaked in alcohol.

As far as gas consumption is concerned, some gills do use more than others to reach sear temperatures. Usually, because of their burner design or configuration. However, once you preheat your grill to he temperature you want, that doesn't mean the flame height has to remain the same all the time. Once you start cooking, there's no reason you can't turn the burner(s) down some and conserve fuel.

Hope this helped you and Happy Grilling.

If this is a propane (LP) grill, it could be a sign that your regulator is going bad. Try replacing the regulator.

Napoleon Fireplace propane Pilot won't light main burner even though gas flows in?

  • I'm going to assume your fireplace has a pilot light.
  • Follow the little holes in the burner that lead to the pilot light.
  • Make sure the pilot flame is pointing directly at the closest burner hole. (adjust if necessary).
  • Often, you will need to sprinkle a layer of "glowing embers" in this area. The embers will help the gas travel to the pilot light and ignite.
  • Always start your propane appliance on "High" never "Low". Cold propane likes to drop to the bottom of the firebox and accumulate until it reaches the pilot (this is called delayed ignition). Keeping it on "high" will help the fuel travel over to the pilot without buildup.

I have a Williams gas wall heater model # 5009622. The pilot lite shut off in the middle of the night. I can light it, but won't stay lit, I took out thermalcoupler and cleaned, put back and pilot...

It sounds like there may be an issue with the gas valve or the thermocouple on your Williams gas wall heater model # 5009622. The fact that the pilot light will not stay lit and the burners came on and went off after cleaning the thermocouple, suggests that there may be a problem with the gas valve or thermocouple. Additionally, the fact that the pilot light went off in the middle of the night, it could also be a sign of a problem with the thermocouple.
Possible causes for this issue include a malfunctioning thermocouple, a faulty gas valve, or a problem with the voltage to the gas valve.
Here are some steps you can try to fix the problem:
  1. Check the thermocouple: Make sure that the thermocouple is properly installed and that the wire connections are secure. Also, make sure that the thermocouple is clean and not corroded.
  2. Check the gas valve: Make sure that the gas valve is functioning properly and that it is sending gas to the pilot light.
  3. Check the voltage: Make sure that the voltage to the gas valve is correct and that the wiring connections are secure.
  4. Check for leaks: Make sure that there are no leaks in the gas line.
  5. If the problem persists, it's best to contact a professional HVAC technician or the manufacturer for further assistance.
It's important to note that working with gas appliances can be dangerous, if you're not comfortable working with gas appliances, it's best to get it serviced by a professional.

I changed the thermo coupler and the pilot light does stay lit but the burners won't light

If you are referring to a gas fireplace:

  • Make sure the pilot knob is turned from "pilot" to "ON" or it will never run.
  • If the pilot knob is "ON", and the pilot is lit, but the burner won't light, it could be a bad Thermopile. The thermopile is the other safety mechanism in the pilot assembly that controls the burner.

I changed my thermocouple on my fireplace,it still wont stay lit

Thermocouple keeps the pilot lit.
Thermopile keeps the burner lit.
Please specify what won't stay lit...
If it's the burner, you may need to change the thermopile as well.
If the pilot still won't stay lit, you will want to make sure that the pilot flame is large enough to completely engulf the thermocouple and keep it hot. If it's too small, you may need to take some compressed air and blow out the pilot hood to remove any blockage.

Most gas water heater problems can be solved by having service technician perform yearly maintenance. Or by doing maintenance yourself.
This maintenance includes cleaning burner parts and combustion chamber, checking gas pressure and supply, bleeding air out of gas line, checking vent draft, making sure air supply is adequate and not exposed to chemicals, cleaning air intake. Also adjusting flame sensor so it is positioned correctly. If water heater is connected to electric circuit, the outlet must have correct polarity.

You can get gas to appliance indicates the gas control valve and water heater are not locked out. But the gas control valve thermostat can still be bad.

Need to light the pilot light

I am not familiar with this particular brand. What type of heater is it? Normal pilot lighting is done by setting the gas valve to the "Pilot" position and then pushing on the valve to manually open the pilot. After this, light the pilot and continue holding the valve for 30sec to give the thermocouple a chance to heat up. Release the valve and it should stay lit. Turn the gas valve to "On" and you're done. If it doesn't stay lit after releasing the valve, replace the thermocouple. If it doesn't light at all, call a technician out to check gas pressure, orifice, and pilot assembly.
