Buttons on the curve not responding.

Every button I press including the on and off button won't respond. But I know it can turn on because when I replace the battery it takes me to the main menu. The only problem I can think of is that I held the blackberry when my hands were wet. Ever since then it hasn't worked.

  • XIII_2 Dec 18, 2008

none of my buttons work either and all i can do is scroll up and down, the phone wasn't near water at all, and last thing i did was watch a youtube video and i just hit the key lock button when i was done, i went to use it 5 hours later at least, and it wasn't working, then i plugged it in, and the screen lit up saying to unlock the phone, but none of the buttons worked.

  • raquell_a16 Dec 25, 2008

hey exact same thing happened to me, where is the white sticker located behind the battery? i cant find it.

  • Anonymous Mar 28, 2009

  • Anonymous Apr 18, 2009

I'm having the same problem - it's really bumming me out.

  • Anonymous May 26, 2009

Same exact thing :( buttons won't work, the phone appears to be dead but the phone will magically turn back on when someone calls me, only I can't answer it because the buttons don't work! The store blamed water damage even though this problem started w/ no warning or incident--it just stopped working altogether. is there any way to get my texts???

Im seriously upset for no reason I am getting the same problem. Out of nowhere all my buttons don't work but my trackball scrolls. When I put the battery out and in it takes me to the menu where I can scroll until it fades away but I can't select anything. Menu also appears when I plug in the charger but soon to fade away. None of the buttons work including the voice command or volume etc. My phone was never wet I take very good care of it and the little sticker behind the battery is white. It happened one time earlier this week and I was able to resolve it by removing the battery and rebooting it several times. Now I am stuck in the middle of nowhere at an oil rig with no cell phone. I will be sure to tell my service provider how upset I am about this and I'm not sure I will be getting another Blackberry at all after this kind of **** happens. My RAZR worked great for years not a single issue.

The membranes of the keyboard buttons are probably corroded they can be cleaned and replaced. There are :Blackberry Curve Repair Guidesonline that show you how to disassemble the Curve if you want to do it yourself.

Same issue here, accept at first the whole bottom right hand corner of the keyboard (about 4-5 buttons) when barely touched would cause my phone to type t and g. and then a few days later only the trackball worked! phone is always in the locking case, never next to water or even humidity, no vibrations.
I just got it to start working again while looking at this website about 5 minutes ago!! If I use my thumbs to push down in the middle of the phone right above the trackball as if trying to break it in half. Now it works perfectly!

I have had the same problem with unresponsive keys three times on a Curve 8300. Just leaving the phone without the battery in it for 24 hours fixed it. Although a major inconvenience, its better than buying a new phone or waiting a week for Verizon to ship a replacement. The problem never seems to be related to water damage, but always after a period of non-use (5+ hours).

I have had 3 blackberry's stop responding to the keyboard/trackball (unfixable) after using a chainsaw for an hour with it in my pocket. My work provides a replacement, but I guess I shouldn't be doing that. Anybody else have this problem? Apparently the blackberry can be permanently damaged by intense sound or vibration at the chain saw frequency. And this has happened to me on two different chain saws.

I now have a curve..previously had 8830..ive had the same problem with both phones..but i think i now know what the problem is!..the trackball/keys wouldnt respond correctly..i noticed it usually happened later in the evening..i kept getting new track balls-but by the next afternoon it did the same thing. when i read about others who had this problem..their carrier told them it was water damage. Most of them hadnt exposed their phone to water-nor had i. The previous post by the guy with the chainsaw; he said he had the phone in his pocket-which is where i kept mine..i think as i work and sweat and get heated maybe moisture, or 'steam' gets in the phone. ive quit carrying it in my pocket..so far no problems!!

Definitely try taking off back cover, taking out battery and placing phone in a bowl of rice for several hours. The rice draws out any moisture and may get your phone back to working correctly.

Mine was doing same thing and was fixed after rice.

I WOULD NOT ADVISE USING A HAIR DRYER!!

  • mflores10019 Nov 24, 2010

Thank you very much for the advice, phone works after leaving it in rice for seveal hours. I would have been spending Thanksgiving without a phone.

I had the same problem. And it was not water damage. A quick battery pull will not solve the problem. But leaving the battery out for 24 hours solved it. Thanks SPAMME486!! :)

  • LisaPF May 07, 2011

Did you have to let the battery die first or you just took it out for 24 hours while still charged?

Today received my blackberry bold 9000. First charged it trough 220V. Afterwards I tried to connect with my exitsting phone via bluetooth. I got connected and then the display of the blackberry turned black. I do not recieve any reaction of pushing buttons, taking out the battery for more then 30 seconds, summarised I do not have any clue how to solve this issue.

Who has the answer for me?

Regards MR

I have read reports that if you wipe your phone clean, like completely, it will work again. It's an issue with corrupt back ups etc. Yes you have to re-enter your address book, email settings, and set your phone up from scratch, but it's a lot easier then dealign with your service provider who will just try to battery-pull fix your phone... which I'm sure you've tried 8 times by now.

I have also read reports that you can save your address book etc and try to reupload it... sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. so far all thats working is complete system wipe

You need to look for a little sticker behind the battery on the phone, if it is red then the warranty is void. if it is still white then call cust. warranty and they will replace it 1800-801-1101

Rice will work if you're PATIENT. I'm not patient to wait that long with my phone in a rice bowl because I like to text and talk on the phone a lot. If you're patient enough, desiccant will work better. The way to make it work in about 10 minutes will work if its hot or sunny outside. This worked for me because its summer time. If its hot outside, place your phone outside in a half shady and sunny area. leave it there for 5-10 minutes. If its NOT hot outside, look for the sunniest area and leave it there for 10-20 minutes. If its not hot or sunny, this will not work. By the way, you must take out the battery when you do this. If you COMPLETELY soaked your phone, wipe it out, including the battery, and add 10 minutes to the time. If you just had your hand wet and touched your phone, don't leave it 10 minutes longer than the time I specified because it will or may damage your screen.

This happened to me this morning. I was listening to Pandora and turned off Pandora and when I went to ck my messages I got nothing. I removed the battery several times NOTHING happened....So I took the phone apart and check it for moisture or some clear sign that something is wrong and I couldnt find any thing. Put the phone back together and still nothing the only thing i can do is move the track ball after replacing the battery but once it goes into sleep mode there is nothing i can do.

I took my Blackberry into Verizon today, for no reason I can't press any buttons, only the trackball is responding to moving, but not to bring up a menu or anything. They took my phone apart, cleaned it, replaced the trackball and still the problem wasn't fixed. The only solution is I have to wait 2 days to get my replacement by FedEx, I was told that none of the Verizon retailers in my county or the next one over had any of my model. They were going to 'loan' me a silver one until my pink one came in, but they (nor the other stores) had either one. Oh well, their best guess, software malfunction.

Buttons on the curve not responding.

had the same problem my curves key pad did not respond at all after researching and investigating i found this is apperantly a very common problem and found only one place that had an answere most do not know about the curves soft reset ability in other words reseting the phone without removing the battery this opperation can be performed by simultaniously holding down three keys the Alt,theshift or aA up arrow ,and the del buttons all together u may have to try it a few times for it to work and once it has your red power light at the top will flash once the screen lights up again repeat the process five or six times to ensure it is reloading all info stored and lastley if a soft reset does not work attempt to do a hard reset by removing the battery while ur power is on still but leave it out longer than 30 seconds i left my battery out for about 5 min then reinstalled it and now all is well in bb world once more remeber your bb is basic but still a pc none the less and as such it is a good practice to do a reset periodically to ensure the quallity of the bb functioning best wishes and i hope this is able to help you if not whatever u do don't attempt to take the bb apart unless u r trained pro because it should have a one year warranty on it and any thing u attempt to do on ur own will void the warranty
