Steamist 1100 Sm11 Large Capacity Steam Bath Generator Logo
Posted on Nov 03, 2010

My SM11 model Steamist was installed above our shower/steam room. It is 2 years old. While in use recently, it made a loud sound like a low-pitch popping sound or low boom. Imagine somebody inside a closet is blowing up and popping a paper bag and you are hearing it from outside the closet. Since the unit is above the steam room, it was loud. I'm talking loud enough to get your attention. There was no water leak. It just made a loud boom and shut off. What is most disturbing is that it not only threw the breaker switch in the panel box in the garage (the breaker for the unit), it caused my main breaker switch at the outside meter to go off. The electricity to the entire house was shut off! What could have possibly happened in the unit to make that sound and cause the breaker switch and the main breaker to go off? Thank you in advance for your help. Steve

The heating elements had burned up in the unit therefor creating a dead short on that circuit. Main breakers on homes and buildings are VERY sensitive and will sometimes trip before the smaller branch cicuit breakers will . So the popping you heard was the heating elements breaking down inside the unit it can be some what noisy.

Steamist unit installed by general contractor and shower enclosed in porous marble product. Orange discoloration has appeared around the metallic steam dispensing device. What could be causing this?

Orange discoloration is most often caused by rust or other minerals in the water.
Usually, the solution is to have a filter (or more than one) installed in the circuit.
God bless your efforts.

The system was worming, producing steam and then quit working. The key pad does not work when the start/stop pad is depressed. The system is about 5 years old.

WE TURNED OUR STEAM MIST ON AND IT STARTED TO WARM UP THEN IT STOPED AND NOW WE IT WONT TURN BACK ON IS THEIR A RESET BUTTON?

1) Search of sample manual shows no reset:
http://www.steamist.com/Downloads/pdf1/554-G.pdf

2) Check circuit breaker.

3) Steamist website has contact us link: With direct e-mail to 'troubleshoot' and 'literature'
I suggest next step should be contact manufacturer and request each of the following: a) specific manual b) do-it-yourself assistance c) warranty information 5 years parts, 2 years labor d) name of authorized technician who can make repairs if needed.

Our Steamist steam shower is probably a few years

That is a main problem with the analog systems. Just not reliable as the new digital systems. To my best knowledge there is only one manufacturer making the 100% digital steam generators.
