Acer Aspire 9300 Notebook Logo

Acer Aspire 5735-6694. Came with Vista and was upgraded with Acer Win 7 x64 Home Premium. NB is on AC power with battery installed. All a sudden, the screen goes black. You can see the screen with a flashlight. Remove the battery and it works just fine. Plug the battery back in and it may last 1-6 minutes and -poof- black again. Bought a new battery, just in case. Nope. Any ideas? I thought maybe a MS upgrade may have changed drivers, so I looked on Acer site. Nothing.

mastericpr08, the NB is a Duo Core 64. Of course it says 64-bit operating system.
FYI, there is a quicker way to see that info... Win-Pause or install SIW.exe to see the nuts and bolts of any system.
If it worked fine for a long time and now doesn't with the battery present, the possibilities are: hw gone bad (inverter, bulb, connector, etc) or drivers/SW (MS power management, a driver update w/ the weekly MS upgrades, etc).
I am trying to get some input from folks that have had a similar situation.
If it is hw, then why the fail w/ battery and OK without?

YAre you sure your machine can support X64 OS?

  • Anonymous Nov 03, 2010

    mastericpr08, No I am not.
But then again if Acer sells a product saying it WILL work with Win7 and ships the cd to upgrade it to Win7 x64 (Duo Core), should I REALLY have to fully investigate if Acer is right/wrong? The nb worked for maybe 4-7 months before this Black-LCD-with-battery-installed problem.

To be sure go to My Computer Properties and there is the view basic information about your computer, under System you gona see Manufacture, Rating, Processor Installer memory (RAM) and them System type. There you gona read 32 or 64-bit Operating System.

I have Vista 32 on Acer Aspire 9410-4933. Can I install Win 7 x64 on it?

No, you won't be able to install Win7 x64 on it, because your CPU does not support the 64-bit instruction set. However, you will be able to install the 32-bit Windows 7 versions, and it should run perfectly.

Acer aspire 5580 upgraded with windows 7(previous ly with windows vista home premium)- camera not working

From looking at the Acer support site it looks as if they haven't sorted out the driver files for Window 7 yet for the Bison, Logitech and Suyin webcams. I've had mixed success in the past by downloading and installing the older drivers for Vista but it's pretty hit and miss. Hopefully the afore mentioned manufacturer's are working on providing updated drivers for Windows 7 very soon.

Replace the Vista Home Premium with XP on ASPIRE M1202

Your best option is to upgrade to Windows 7. It is free for (I believe all) Vista users, and you can run programs in XP compatibility mode.

My Acer aspire x3200 Home Premium will not let me upgrade to windows 7 home premium.Installation failed.

Sometimes you're better off to uninstall the old OS, and then install the upgrade. If you have files to save, store them on removable media, then format the drive, then install the upgrade. During the process, it will ask for the VISTA product key, and the windows 7 product key

Software incompatibility on my acer aspire6930-6455

Well, we wont know until you try. In my opinion, your 32/64 bit issues will be solved, but you would still have the normal vista/xp compatibility issues.

But that is to be expected, like when we all upgraded from win98 to XP.

So - I would recommend downgrading to Vista 32 bit, or getting the 64bit software version of the programs you want to use.

Good Luck, and let me know what you did, and how it turned out! :)
