To do so there are more than 2 ways
1: Songs download via bluetooth:
Switch on the Bluetooth of your cell phone. Switch on the bluetooth of your laptop/other cell. Now pair your Laptop with cellphone:: go to start>control panel> my bluetooth places> pair device enter any passkey like 123456 when it prompt on your cellphone, enter the same 123456 on the cell as passkey and your cell will be paired with laptop/cellphone
Now select any sog on the laptop/cellphone, rightclick on it and select send to bluetooth. Accept the song reception on your cell. After download you ca see the song in cell's inbox.

2: Songs download via Cable.
Install the PC suite of youe cell phone on the Laptop/Desktop Restart the PC Connect the USB /Data cable between laptop/descktop and your cell Now explore the cell memory in PC suite and imply copy paste the songs on the memory of your cell

two things can play the part

1. check the exact path that you are storing the songs possibility that you are storing the songs on the memory card and checking the data on the phone or vice-versa

check to see if the hidded attribute has been set for the file on the computer if exists remove it and then load the mp3s to the phone

wut i did was : First i downloaded this program named audacity so u can cut chunks of the song. then i downloaded another program called Switch converter cuz this particular phone only plays songs on mp3 or mp4 format. unfortunately u can only cut up to 278 kb which is about 18 seconds of the song. but that's wut i did and it works just fine .

I have the LG KF600. I want an MP3 message tone
Go to menu > my stuff > sounds> external memory (or where ever your music is) > find the song you want but DO NOT ENTER IT> click on 'set as' > select ringtone.

Cannot transfer music from memory card to phone,
Before you put your songs and file on your memory card did you first insert the memory card into your phone, and then formatted it?

I have the LG Rumor as well and i haven't figured out a way to make the songs available as a ring tone yet, it only gives me the option of downloading new ringtones, and I can only play my music in the music player ='(
