Either the optics have failed or the lens is dirty. Try opening up the unit and cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. Basically the unit can not read the disk and is requesting that you insert one. If the cleaning fails to resolve the problem, you will need to have the optics replaced.

Philips CDR796 not recording

Owner's Manual and Service Manual in the link. Old machine, has to be CDR(W)

Insert a CDR(W) which is absolutely free of scratches and
dust particles in the CD recorder tray.

My "Philips CDR 870" keeps

It means the disc you're trying to record onto is for DATA, not AUDIO, which it must be for a consumer recorder. See page 10 of the manual for Additional Information.

Phillips cdr 200 recorder, just recorded 13 tracks with time left over on sony brand recordable cds for music. i switched from analog to digital to finalize and it took 4 mins however RECORDABLE still...

It sounds like it didn't truly finalize. Try finalizing it again since the 'recordable' status implies it still qualifies. You have to press RECORD immediately after FINALIZE.

The Philips directory lists a few CDR200 models but the documentation contains directiosn for CDR765.

http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/c/

for example...
http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/c/cdr200bk/cdr200bk_dfu_aen.pdf

If for some reason you ever want or need to extract music from a non-finalized CDR or CDR-W, try loading it into a standard DVD player. Without a TOC the player won't be able to display track info or navigate to individual tracks but it MAY play it straight through anyway and you could digitally capture all or part of the output on another CDR. Just be aware that if the original is rewriteable and has old data beyond the new data you will crash into it without warning at the end of the new data, so be ready to pause your copy at the appropriate time.

Recording trouble

Hi again,

I understand. Must be a glitch somewhere. Anyways, I already posted possible solutions here your original posting/problem. They were:
1. Power on the Philips FW-R7, leave the left tray empty and closed. Open the tray and put in a recorded CD (not a CDR but a regular CD from your music collection), close the right tray. Wait a couple of seconds as the FW-R7 reads the CD. Now open the tray, remove the music CD and insert your CDR. The FW-R7 should read the CDR without the error message and record to the CDR from any source. Let me know if this works for you;
2. laser cleaning or realignment (would need a service center);
3. try using lower then 40X blank CDs.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Philips cdr 606 Recorder. I keep geting a message saying Reading and the Insert disk, after I have inserted a disk.. Tried different disks, also a lens cleaner but keep getting the same message.. can...

The problem of reading, insert disk, is that the mechanism of the player ....the problem is not on the lens its in your player mechanism. I suggest you that, in the mechanism which the lens are moving if u see a roller that is the problem and its already in dirt and dust..u better clean that by using a lighter fluid and then take the old grease change it with new one with good quality..after that it will be okay.

Wrond Disc

The disc you need to use to record is "PHILIPS CDR MUSIC". That is what it should day on the top of the disc. On the left side of the disc, it should say "DIGITAL AUDIO RECORDABLE". I spent a lot of money buying the wrong discs before finally finding the correct one. So I know your frustration!

Not reading blank cdr audio disks to record onto..

Will it read audio cd's? Sounds like you need a new laser unless you have access to a philips COMPair system to diagnose / realign it.
