I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 4X4 ext. cab/short bed. The 5.3l engine surges and sometimes falters (+- 150 rpm) between 30-58 mph in high gear under a slight load. There is no surging or faltering below 30 mph or above 60 mph. The local dealer could find no codes. They test drove it and said it was a front wheel hub which they replaced (500+ $$$) It still surges and falters. Any ideas? Joe

I need a met body code for my 1999 chevy Silverado LS, V6, short bed fleetside 2we Ext Cab. Where do I find it?

Paint code should be on the label affixed to the latch end of the driver's door. Failing that, it will be shown on the option list (may be on the glove box door). Failing both of these, take your VIN number to a GM dealer and they will look it up for you.

1999 Silverado has an engine surge of 200-500 RPM at 45 to 55 MPH

sounds a little like a cruise control problem.
they used to have a centering adjustment that kept the speed within a range. If the range somehow shifted to the high end this would cause your surge. it would be a screwdriver slot on the outside of the case.cw increase ccw decrease. yours is set too high or cw.
I work the screw back and forth several times in case dirt entered the cruise module.

Hi. I have an '82 F-150 with a 351 c.i. engine, the extended cab version with the full-length bed, 4WD, with only 20,000 miles on it. When I'm driving about 70 mph, the tachometer reads 3000 rpm, which...

Hi

It does look like you have a 3 speed C6, if the PRND21 description is correct. If you do have overdrive, the "D" will be printed in a white oval.

Sounds like it is OK. My Mustang has a 351C with a C6 trans, and 3000 rpm is about right at 70mph.

The defining factor on the rpm will be the Differential gears, which in a truck, might very well be taller gears instead of highway gears, as the taller gears provide more power output at the axles than the highway gears do.

Example:
if you had 3.0 to 1 gears (Highway), that means that the driveshaft will turn 3 times for every complete revolution of the rear wheels(Axle)

If you had 4.0 to 1 gears, then the driveshaft would turn 4 times for every revolution if the axle. Lots of torque for pulling stumps, but on the highway. the engine will have to turn more rpm's to maintain 70 mph vs a 3 to 1.

with the 3 to 1, you will turn less rpm's on the highway, but will have less available low speed power (Torque) at the wheels.

Sounds like the truck is doing fine.
