Sounds like the IR sensor in the TV may be faulty, since you have now tried a couple remotes. Make sure nothing is on the IR sensor like tape, plastic, etc. IR sensor repairs are a fairly cheap and easy repair that can be done at your local tv repair shop. If you are still in warranty you can call Philips and tell them that you tried 2 remotes (1 brand new) on the TV and neither work. They should offer you a repair option. If the backlight of the LCD-panel does not function, (no picture) then Master and/or Slave inverter are defective. Inverter boards are screwed to both sides of the LCD display, if they have revision 1.2 boards then they will need replaced with revision 1.3 boards.
