what you would need to get is a wirless router. If you have high speed internet then you can plug the internet modem into the wireless router and then plug your main pc into the router via an ethernet cable and then set up your laptop to pick up the signal wirelessly. If you have dial up internet then you would still need a wireless router but it is a little more complicated. You could hook up the router to your main pc and then set up internet connection sharing so that way your laptop could pick it up wirelessly. hopefully this helps.
This depends if you connect with an ethernet cable or wireless connection. With the cable, just plug into your modem or router. If wireless, then you need to set up the wirless connection on your computer.
Cable modems and routers must be turned on in a specific way.
First, unplug both the router and modem. Next, plug the ethernet cable from the modem, into the cable router, and unplug the cable from the modem to the computer.
Next, turn on the modem, and wait for all of the lights to stay static (usually there's 4 lights, the main one we're interested in, is the status light).
Next, plug in and turn on your router.
You should now be able to access the router and configure it for your internet connection.
run the modem to the router with Ethernet cable and then use one of the other Ethernet ports on the router and another Ethernet cable to connect desktop
