You can change the Region Code of you DVD player but be aware that you have a limited number of changes, then the DVD player will be stuck to a certain region.
Search in the Options menu and change the region code to one printed on the french dvd case. To watch DVDs from your region again you have to change the region once more. Watch for changes left.

My sd3980 dvd player wont turn on

Some new dvd/vcr combo (or just dvd players) NEED to be plugged through either the HDMI or component cables (blue/green/red cables) in order to view the DVDs.

Try one of those to see if it fixes your problem.

P.S. don't forget to change the input of your TV to either the connection you are using for the DVD (HDMI or components)

Hi. I have Toshiba sdv395 & was told I could dub VHS to DVD. There is no info in the manual. Can it be done & how. Roy

This is a DVD player. It will not write to DVD but will play discs you have recorded elsewhere. You could (with non-copy protected discs) dub the DVD to VHS. To go the other way, you would need to connect the player to a computer with appropriate software or other DVD recording device.

I hope this helps.

It says no disc inserted

well it sounds like a problem with your lense. so just take it apart and look at your lens and see if there is anything wrong or out of the ordinary with it.

Progressive scan

I had the same problem once and the solution is to reboot the DVD player. to do this you need to unplug the unit for 3 or more minutes and then you will have to go through the setup process again but everything should work fine and interlaced (not progressive) should be the dvd format again.
