Do to parts being unavailable and age of machine is it worth fixing ? what will you do next time something breaks
U would be best off just buying a new or good used machine in my opinion
These machines and a few more beside are so cheap to buy that its not worth even trying to repair them as break a bit and where does the part come from ,if you still have the booklet it may have a agent in their or only the factory in taiwan or china .Best advice is to look around different stores and just buy a new one
Hi, it's quite an old model now and you are right in that a spare part might be hard to get hold of. What i would do is get in touch with all the dealers in your country and ask if they have any scrap machines. A lot of them take old models in as part exchange. This is a link to the USA dealers: http://www.elnausa.com/en-us/locator.php
Another thing you can try is put a wanted ad on Ebay as sometimes old models come up from time to time.
Also try these people: http://www.sewingmachine-sales.co.uk/ they have some Elna gears listed and might be able to help.
Hope that helps, if it does please rate my help. Thanks
Hello. Yes. Call around to a few sewing machine stores and sewing machine repair shops. These folks generally hold on to a few old machines for parts. Also, you could put an ad on craigslist. This is a free at just go to craigslist.com

Hi Joe,
The problem I have is that I am in South Africa and there only appear to be "official" Elna repair centres here and their response is that the machine is no longer supported. Where can I get a list of the repair shops you mention, with email addresses, to try and track the part down?
Brian
PS - no idea how this ended up in a Problems with Vacuums post!
I replied to Askjoe but got no response to him. He suggested I look for repair places where there might be a scrapped machine I could cannibalise for parts. The problem is that I am in South Africa where there only appears to be "official" Elna repairers and their answer is that the machine is no longer supported so no parts around! Any ideas?
I've sent a parts request to sewingmachine-sales and will see what they come up with. I'll let you know if they can help.
Thanks for yours!
Brian
